Watching some of the footage on BBC online.

Amazing amounts of bullshit filler.

We're currently getting Will Smith's view.

protein

his view is just as relevant as anyone else's. more so as he's bound to end up playing obama in a movie.

protein

just watched bush and obama leave the whitehouse together. presumably to stop people booing.

It was more what he was saying I was rolleying.

Apparently they are investigating a security threat. I assume Jack Bauer has another busy day.

This thread makes me sound quite cynical, it's quite exciting really.

I'm also having fun counting how many times they mention Obama is an African American/the first African American President. 8 since I started watching.

One of my colleagues was called for jury duty last week and overheard a man complaining about getting called for jury duty for the first time in his 52 years of living here. He said "I didn't know this would happen when I registered to vote -- you know, the Obama thing."

I just watched a copy of it and I thought it was one of the best speeches I'd heard in a long time. Sure, speeches don't change the world or the situation we're in but it was certainly a good start.

I didn't hear you saying the same thing in 2000 or 2004 when Republicans were chanting Bush's name.

I was watching the speech waiting to see what historic phrase his writers had come up with. Something along "Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country." or "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
But it didn't come :(

Dyl Ulenspiegel
20-01-2009, 21:34:45
How about "Ask not what you should fear - just look at your country".

It's talked about to much but it is a great sign that a person who is part black can rise up to take the country's highest office based on merit. That does show how much things have changed.

we're kind of lucky with our level of racism in the south of england. it's really great that some of the more, er, traditional people of america are coming to accept black people as equal.

although you watch presidential addresses on youtube and every other comment contains the word "nigger". which is depressing.

protein
20-01-2009, 22:16:27
i'm not happy that he's a black president, although it's great for you guys, i'm happy because he might just turn the tide in anti-american feeling, reach out to extreme muslims, close guantanamo, support stem cell research, be pro-choice for abortion and give america back it's pride after bush, 911, iraq and the economy fuck up. plus because he's clearly much, much brighter than bush and not from a family of oligarchs.

Obama is doomed to be both a success and a failure. Bush basically put the bar on the damn ground, so all he has to do is not trip over it, and he will be a huge success by comparison. That said, expectations are so very unrealistically high that there is simply no way that he is ever going to meet them.

Oerdin

I understand the Irish are also claiming Obama as one of their own. ;)

he's in quite a lucky position. he's been banging on about change for his whole campaign and he's clearly very different from bush so people will expect him to kick arse left right and centre. he could actually make some bold moves.

i read some more youtube comments a minute ago. i must stop doing that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjnygQ02aW4
