In your country people murder people due to sporting events.

In my country they shower the team with teddy bears to be given to sick children.

Watching football is, in itself, a contact sport.

I suppose you could follow the example of cricket, where it's not so much spectating as a day-long binge-drinking marathon.

I have a question though, are ice hockey fans a strange bunch of weird overweight middle-aged women with a fetish for sports pins, giant thermos flask full of tea and tent-sized replica shirts? All those teddy bears makes me think that they are...

No doubt "Cowmeadow" in the picture there is one of them.

Yes, I'm familiar with the UK ice hockey leagues. I can't even describe how bad they are.

I know one famous NHL player that ended up there. 10 years after he retired due to drug and alcohol abuse, he played in the UK ice hockey league for a month or so, leading in all offensive categories...until they expelled him from the league for being too physical and fighting too much.

Pansie Euros can't take that shit.

Apparently the last time this happened they tried that, but the vent was too strong. They ended up turning the HVAC off. I used a rescue blimp with tape on it:

Considering the relative success of even tiny nations like Slovakia in the world of Hockey, I think it'd be safe to say that an all-Europe team would easily trounce an All-North America team any day.

Asher
03-12-2008, 19:01:38
It's been done, and you've lost.

Slovakia is not a successful hockey nation, BTW.

Yeah, what, seven years ago? In an exhibition game with no prestige? That's cute.

Slovakia finished ahead of Canada at the last Olympics, didn't they?

KrazyHorse
03-12-2008, 22:41:15
The fact that you're trying to base Slovakia's rank as an international hockey power on a single Olympics (in which both teams were eliminated in the quarters without having faced each other) is ridiculous.

I might also note that the only team which both Canada and the Slovaks faced was the Czech republic (who Canada beat 3-2 but who beat the Slovaks 3-1).

North American all-stars versus Euro all-stars would generally be a close matchup.

:)

KrazyHorse
03-12-2008, 22:44:25
Would probably give the edge to NA. Euros would certainly not "easily trounce" NA.

Europe plays a really slow, boring, pansy version of hockey not popular with real sports fans over here. The games had low ratings when they were North America vs Europe, so they changed it.

Well, "stronzo" means literally turd in italian (doubles use figuratively too in place of your "asshole" insult), and most italian words come straight from latin....

King_Ghidra
09-12-2008, 16:27:13
it was certainly a disaster for the Bills.

From what i understand there were plenty of dolphins fans and some empty seats.

From the (Canada) National Post:

Hello, Jason Peters. You're a 340-pound offensive lineman, so why don't we give you the first word about what it was like for the Buffalo Bills to play a home game at Rogers Centre, in Toronto?

"It felt like we were on the road," he said.

How so?

"When you've got a home game and the crowd is supposed to cheer, they were cheering more for the Dolphins," Peters told The Buffalo News. "I wasn't here in the pre-season, so I don't know how it was then. But that stunned me. They're not even cheering on third down. They're not cheering when we do get a first down. They're just sitting there like they don't know what's going on. I hate the idea of us playing here. It's crazy."

Still i read the Bills estimate c. 10,000 of their normal attendance comes from fans who live in Canada...

Lurker the Second
09-12-2008, 16:31:51
I'm not sure what they are thinking when they schedule these games. It's not like Buffalo has attendance issues for its home games.
