Any idea why there would be a record turnout?

I voted this morning and there were no lines; I was in and out in five minutes. I love living in a state with laws requiring way more polling places then would be needed with the projected voters. State wide turn out is much stronger then estimated but few places have long lines. About the only place I've heard with really long lines in the state has been in downtown LA (the inner city) where literally tens of thousands of new voters have overwhelmed the polling places.

I've vote 5 times. I'm sure that's skewing the data.

Well, you are kind of close to Chicago so it balances out with all the other people voting five times. ;)

By voting five times you could have gotten five free sex toys: http://apolyton.net/go.php?http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/presidentbush/2008/11/unpopular.html

Or five free coffees at Starbucks: http://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/stories/2008/04/07/daily10.html

I voted Barr for president. Protest vote...mad about the McCain support for the bailout. Gilmore for Senate. He will get killed, but what the hell.

Had unopposed Congressman and school board and city ward person (am in a nice neighborhood...but somehow electorally I'm in "the hood"). Didn't bother to select a mayor as there were 5 choices and no party allowed and I didn't know any of them.

I saw Jesse Jackson crying last night. I think he's sad because now he will never get close enough to Obama to actually cut his nuts off.
