This makes it sounds like they are perpetually useless losers.

Might be worth Lurker adding them to his list of teams to support. Although West Brom are actually doing ok this year.

Downside is that apparently they have "arrogant fans" not really the right spirit, we maybe need a team who's fans are more resigned to failure.

I'm a New Jersey Devils fan. It's an aberration, to be sure, but every dog has its day.

Yup, they are absolutely terrible. "#1 hockey market" in the world, "Canada's team", and they haven't won a cup in 42 years. Each year they get worse, not better.

I'm assuming the author is just stupid when he talks about ESPN in Canada. I presume he means TSN.

For the Leafs, not winning is a destiny.

I wouldn't say they are any worse for that than many other teams. There's just a lot more of them.

I have to admit to deriving some mirth from listening to Toronto sports radio sometimes. They have a popular host who I have mentioned before (McCown) who seems to enjoy mocking the faithful whenever they suggest the Leafs do anything other than suck.

Their station is running a promo. They will give one listener $1,000,000 if the Leafs win the Cup this year. Same day they started that, McCown started his own contest. He'll give a listener some of his own cash if the Leafs finish last (small amount, $300 or $3000, or somesuch based on level of suck). I'll bet more people have entered McCown's contest than the official station one.

I think you meant the Senators. Oops, Nationals.

First in peace, first in war, last...in the American League.

Yet they've won more recently than the Blackhawks.

Prince of Wales and Campbell were conferences

Prince of Wales consisted of Adams and Patrick divisions

The Toronto Maple Leafs were part of the Adams division in the Prince of Wales Conference. They are currently in the Northeast division in the Eastern conference. They are thus in the same division as the glorious Habs.

Campbell consisted of Norris and Smythe divisions
