Some time ago you asked about RC's and my prediction that the price of oil would drop.

It's now down to 86 $ from a peak at 147 $ or so, or 40+ %.

Good enough? I guess it will go down into the 50-70 range during this recession.

Drekkus
08-10-2008, 11:14:12
Yeah, I was thinking about that the other day. But did you and RC foresee this in conjunction with the financial crisis??

Bob
08-10-2008, 11:24:44
I think Dyl and RC suck

Dyl Ulenspiegel

My view was that a good deal of the price increase was leveraged speculation that would unwind either under its own weight or in the implosion of the US bubble economy.

Seems we got both now.

Dyl Ulenspiegel

C.G.B. Spender
27-10-2008, 12:56:25
because it becomes cheaper

Dyl Ulenspiegel
27-10-2008, 12:56:28
People have less money, buy less olive oil, supply stays the same, price sinks, jj

C.G.B. Spender
27-10-2008, 12:58:07
does it taste different?

Drekkus
27-10-2008, 12:58:34
So how much of the price difference was speculation, and how much is recession?

Dyl Ulenspiegel
27-10-2008, 12:59:05
That too. Recession oil is of lesser quality.

mr_B
27-10-2008, 13:07:44

jj they only drive a little less. But they also use oil for heating, in industry etc. So people freeze, but drive.

Actually, they do drive less when they have less money (or, conversely, the cost of driving increases).

"We do not believe oil markets are on-track for a decade-plus period of weakness like seen in the 1980s and 1990s," they wrote."

I've seen more daring predictions from palm readers.

Dyl Ulenspiegel
15-12-2008, 12:24:15
I'd just predict a 20-200$ range.

One lesson from all this crisis stuff is that you can't trust:
-bankers
-AAA rating agencies
-Research and advisory firms
