Something motherfucking archetypal about this chick. Check out this picture. Best part is the little girl next to her watching Mommie. Mother fuck! This gal works with her hands on a fishing boat on the weekends. I fucking love this. It's literal frontierswoman. Want the motherfucking Eurotrash who get all upset with Reagan-Bush cowboys to come cluck a little.

"We need change all right -- change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington."

I could've sworn the Republicans were in power the last eight years.

He threw his support behind vice presidential pick Sarah Palin, saying the McCain-Palin ticket "will keep America as it has always been -- the hope of the world."
Apparently he's unaware that Palin is a laughing stock in most of the United States and all of the world.

Also:
Huckabee, according to prepared remarks, will expand on the convention's theme, "Country First," and will discuss McCain's "love of America, vision for the future and long record of service and sacrifice on our behalf."
Yes, we know McCain served. **** you for pretending like service in the military and patriotism means you get to be president.

"We will never allow America to retreat in the face of evil extremism," Romney said.
Yes, the extreme evil Christian right will not retreat in the face of evil extremism. They would be running from themselves.

She tied oil, a major industry in her home state of Alaska, to foreign policy and national security on a night when convention delegates repeatedly burst into chants of "Drill now, baby, drill now!"
Yeah, baby! Because we can immediately tap enough oil not only to meet China's rising oil demand over the next 4 years, we can exceed their demand to the point of lowering our energy bills simply by DRILLING MORE! YEAR! MOAR DRILLING USA! USA! USA!

"It's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform, not even in the state Senate," she said of Obama at the Republican National Convention.

The crowd erupted with chants of "Zero!" and some delegates made zeroes with their fingers.
I'm not sure the mayor of Wasilla should be making these claims, it stinks of blatant hypocrisy...

All in all, a terrific conference. Certainly more entertaining then the democrats' thus far. I like how they didn't address issues but instead dealt with rhetoric the American people would understand: "DRILL MORE NOW!", "Obama is a zero, McCain is a hero", "USA USA USA", "They're coming for your money!"

Shamelessly pandering to the Republicans' most loyal constituents: ****ing dumbasses. And proud of it.

Oh, Sarah Palin:

Katie Couric: Why isn't it better, Gov. Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle-class families who are struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries; allow them to spend more and put more money into the economy instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?

Gov. Sarah Palin: That's why I say I, like every American I'm speaking with, we're ill about this position that we have been put in where it is the taxpayers looking to bail out. But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health-care reform that is needed to help shore up our economy, helping the -- it's got to be all about job creation, too, shoring up our economy and putting it back on the right track. So health-care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americans. And trade, we've got to see trade as opportunity, not as a competitive, scary thing. But one in five jobs being created in the trade sector today, we've got to look at that as more opportunity. All those things under the umbrella of job creation. This bailout is a part of that.

On a related note, I'm not even paying attention to the Canadian election because the results are so frigging obvious. 34% according to intrade

14% according to fivethirtyeight.com (monte carlo simulation)

I don't trust intrade that much. There have been a lot of almost arb opportunities. Fo instance, a while ago the Dem wins election contract and Dem wins Ohio contract were trading at close to the same price. I can't imagine a situation where the Democrats took Ohio but failed to win the election. So as far as I can tell, shorting Ohio and going long Dem wins election was pretty much a freeroll on Dem winning election without winning Ohio...

Tried to put a few hundred dollars in Intrade, but my credit card company refused to process the transaction. Now the contracts are 11 points apart (a week later) in my favour...which means I could have turned ~10% profit in a week (with almost no risk)

i watched some of the debate yesterday. palin has a very interesting debating style which seems to be saying lots of little cryptic sentences strung together with the word "also". you end up trying to decifer the first sentence by the time she's made fifteen random unrelated points.

she made one thing very clear though. she really hates gay people.

Drake Tungsten
04-10-2008, 02:05:44
Didn't she and Biden agree on gay people?

protein
04-10-2008, 02:36:01
biden looked worried when the subject was brought up, knowing that the way to win an election is appeasing the backward midwest christians. he glossed over it in a sad and vague typical politician way. it's annoying because it's at odds with what he and obama have said before but he has to say it to try and stop the opposition from winning the christian vote.

palin on the other hand looked directly into the camera and definitively stated her point.

it's those christian voters that the republicans have been hinting to that barack hussein obama is somehow related to saddam hussein and is secretly a muslim.

palin is a creationist. she genuinely believes in magic, angels, miracles, blessings, vengeful gods, messiahs and all that absolute bullshit. she wants it taught in schools. there's a very, very good chance that she could actually have to take control of the united states. that just leaves me slack jawed. it's like asking someone with a paranoid narcissistic personality disorder to hold a chainsaw next to a load of school children.

she's not fit to govern, but because she has whiter teeth and well-botoxed eyebrows, she's going to win it for mccain.

Drake Tungsten
04-10-2008, 02:47:35
They both said they support giving gay couples every right they want short of marriage. Saying she "hates gay people" based on that response is just dumb.

she's going to win it for mccain.

That's even dumber. McCain has already lost.

protein
04-10-2008, 04:12:44
it's not based on that response. her church (and everyone knows how religious she is) promotes conferences that convert homosexuals into hetrosexuals through prayer. alaska was one of the first states to ban gay marriage. if that's not an anti-gay stance i really don't know what is.

in my reality, if you think that homosexuals need curing and don't have the right to enter into marriage, you are anti-homosexuals.

as for mccain losing, the rest of the planet thought that bush had lost last time. i wouldn't put it past america voting a republican regime in again.

especially given mccain is a war veteran hawk and palin is a hard-line christian who looks like a celebrity news reporter. you couldn't imagine a better team for the midwest.

Drake Tungsten
04-10-2008, 05:42:47
it's not based on that response.

You just said earlier that the one thing Palin made clear in the debate was that she "hates gay people." That's clearly not true.

as for mccain losing, the rest of the planet thought that bush had lost last time. i wouldn't put it past america voting a republican regime in again.

One can still hold out hope that McCain will be elected and Americans can enjoy yet another temper-tantrum overseas, but it's not going to happen. Obama is the luckiest politician of all time and the financial crisis has secured his victory.

protein
04-10-2008, 06:33:23
lucky that the republicans have mightily fucked up america, iraq, afghanistan, the us (and potentially the world) economy and the way america is viewed overseas? i think america (and the world) would be very lucky to get obama. even if at the very least he is the lesser of two evils.

Shining1
04-10-2008, 10:46:54
It's the economy stupid.

Obama has been tracking up ever since the major Wall St bust 2-3 weeks ago. McCain had some schtick in his favour based on his military credentials, but has blatantly shown NO understanding of economics at all. I don't think he can win an election where he has to credibly articulate policies to do with domestic regulation of the financial markets.

A tough break, he was doing really well up until the damn burst. Obama *should* win, because electing a 70 year old idiot warrior to solve an economic crisis makes no sense in anyone's book.

Drake Tungsten
04-10-2008, 17:44:20
On the other hand, electing a 47-year old first-term Senator with no discernible experience or accomplishments isn't a great way to solve an economic crisis, either. America is well and truly fucked in this election.

Asher
