Scientists grow a collection of rat brain cells in the lab and watch how these growing cells form connections to each other. Scientists then hook up this pseudo rat brain to a little robotic ratmobile and this is the result.

That's not MrB!

That was done at Reading University, which is right by my house. I might have to get one of those cool little rat-robots for myself...

so there's a load of rat braincells in a jar remotely controlling a robot? we're one step nearer to cyberdyne systems.

That's a lot of progress from the G.W.Bush-version.

it looks like it's rather shortsighted....

couldn't they mount better lenses, to allow it spotting a wall from a bit farther away?

I remember an interview I saw with Jim Watson where he said unlocking how the brain works would have been the next "big thing" he'd like to see tackled. This is neat stuff.

They're ultrasound sensors I think.

Yeah, it isn't thinking it's just responding predictably when ever the sensor goes off. But I guess that's the first step.

Are people criticising the first ever rat brain robot for being a bit stupid?

We want it to run but it is barely walking... er, rolling. :(

as always, the youtube comments are awesome

Shut up you fucking idiot. Im quite happy to see as many rats go to various experiments as we progress as a species.

Hows about you go live in the wild and see how forgiving your little animal friends really are. douchebag.
