Math roxx!

6 years ago I was working for a german risk management company. Then the french took over. Everyone was frustrated and there was no fun, so I quit after 6 annoying months.

Now I learned from an ex cowie (whose name is Hartmann btw) that, after I left, they told the IT people the future IT department would consist of 100+x employees. 140 people were working in IT at that time, and within a year about 30 left the company.

So everybody was quite laid back when the French (their company was named after a math genius) finally came up with the value of x. To their shock it was x= - 40

so a company, instead of announcing a massive layoff, they could say "We'll hire -100 new employees!"

Just standard econ talk. Like negative growth, negative equity.....

Thougj a proper nerd would have gotten suspicious by the use of x and would have asked if x is element of N or of Z

"General Motors has announced they will be hiring -10,000 employees."

If I understand this, they then fired 50 more people to get to the right number?

No, 50 people got a negative job.

That is brilliantly brilliant.

Anyone want 100+x ?

No thank you.

It is indeed brilliantly brilliant. People with negative jobs don't cause problems when they have work stoppages.

What do we learn from this: never, NEVER, NEVER EVER trust the French!

Especially when acting under a mathmasters name

You mean "negative overtime".

Aren't you supposed to be a lawyer?
