Not remembering anything the next day is the best thing about memorial ady.

Dude, Canadians don't even celebrate Memorial Day. Now you're just making up reasons to drink.

This was payback for not getting to celebrate Victoria Day last week.

I remember making this thread after I got back from buying RoFo fried chicken.

You could've celebrated Victoria Day. No one's going to stop you.

My coworkers might have objected to me fucking off on a day where we had a bunch of important stuff to go over.

My bad. I took "celebrate" to mean "getting really drunk after work."

It's not a proper victoria day unless you start before noon.

And yes, I work more than a 3 hour day.

Just to let you know, Victoria Day is virtually indistinguishable from Memorial Day in its execution...

A disgusting celebration of monarchy is nothing like our Memorial Day, which honors the fallen who helped free our great nation from the yoke of tyranny. Also, Memorial Day has no fireworks. Victoria Day seems to be Canada's Fourth of July, except without all the independence from England stuff.

The other Kirkland-native I know says that Remembrance Day is the Canuck equivalent of Memorial Day (and Veteran's Day).

That is total bullshit. Remembrance Day is solemn. Memorial Day is about drinking and eating. Remembrance Day = Veteran's Day (they're even on the same day)

The nonsense about soldiers on Memorial Day is simple window dressing for you Yanks who can't feel good about looking at girls in bikinis while drinking unless there's some sort of patriotism involved.

You're also way off on the Victoria Day = Fourth of July. Canada Day = Fourth of July. That's when the real firework show is. There is also grilling and drinking beer involved, but it does not match the scale of Victoria Day grilling and drinking beer.

Victoria Day is the ultimate holiday. Nobody even pretends there's a higher reason behind it. It's the one holiday which has absolutely no meaning outside enjoying yourself. Plus it reminds everybody how silly the monarchy is once every year.

Memorial Day is about drinking and eating.

False. We do all that stuff on Memorial Day weekend. Actual Memorial Day is for going to the cemetary and honoring fallen soldiers. It's the most important day of rememberance of the year, far more important than Veteran's Day.

You're also way off on the Victoria Day = Fourth of July. Canada Day = Fourth of July.

I wasn't serious about the comparison. Canada doesn't have a Fourth of July because you never had the balls to tell the English to fuck off.

We don't need a reason to look at girls in bikinins and get drunk. We are the country that invented Spring Break, after all. :)

In your defense, U.S. Presidential candidate Barack Obama doesn't know what the purpose of Memorial Day is either...

He also thinks his non-existant American uncle helped liberate Auschwitz, despite the fact that American troops never made it to Poland. Smart guy.

It's the biggest party because it is celebrating the birthday of one of your greatest British rulers and you love your English overlords.
