Interesting article. I read Atomised (in English) I'm not sure I'd say it was genius, or even really that shocking. Certainly not compared to something like The Wasp Factory. It seemed more smutty/titillating than genuinely shocking.

Anyway, it featured a guy abandoned by his self centred hedonistic mother apparently mirroring Houellebecq's own life. Now his 83 year old mother has written her own book hitting back at his claims about her.

first abandonning him as a baby, then complaining he doesn't exactly paint a favorable picture of her...

I've started reading Atomised because of this thread.
About 1/3 of the way in so far and it feels like it's building up to something.
