A middle school teacher in Florida recently did a "magic" trick (read: illusion) where he made a tooth pick seem to disappear and then reappear. Parents got upset and accused the teacher of practicing witchcraft and pressured the school board into firing him for "wizardry". You just can't make this stuff up. :clueless:

Fla. teacher fired, accused of wizardry

Tuesday, May 06, 2008

A Florida teacher's magic trick seems to have made his job vanish.

Jim Piculas worked as a substitute teacher at a middle school about 30 minutes from Tampa, Florida.

One day he made a toothpick "disappear" then "reappear" in front of his students, but the next day he got a call from his supervisor saying he didn't need to return to campus.

"I said, 'Well pat, what's this all about?' And he said, 'I don't really know how to put this Jim except to say that you've been accused of wizardry.'"

The school district claims there were other problems, like not following lesson plans and letting students play on computers.

Piculas is challenging his dismissal.

I thought that a Wizard would be held in high esteem in the cross burning south...

Indeed. The South seems to have cornered the stupidity market.

Or wait, was that "arse like a wizard's sleeve"?

You should do some magic.

Involving a tooth pick or something bigger?

07-05-2008, 11:45:40
I could make many suggestions of bigger things to make disappear.
Reappearence not required.

Probably a good reason that most countries don't go for shit brown stripes on their national emblem. =)

but Hamburg football 2nd club (St.Pauli) based near the redlights district has a a totally brown outfit!

and in the US there is a Cleveland Browns team! (was it NFL or baseball?)

I wonder if they might get news headlines like "BROWN HATTRICK!"

Nah, Wes Brown is lucky to score three goals a year, let alone three in a game.

Now, if he was given a yellow or red card for accidentally swearing after taking a dive in front of Mike's old band, "Brown carded for slip of the tongue whilst Muf diving" would be plausible.
