Dear Counterglowians

This weekend the website will move to new hosting in the US of A. There will be a period of downtime that shouldn't last more than 24 hours. This project is codenamed "Titanic".

Also as we're approaching a million posts, to improve performance (and prepare for a forum software upgrade) we will also really need to delete a load of crap, sorry threads, from the Counterpoint Archive (http://www.counterglow.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?forumid=16). Please volunteer threads in the aptly named thread in Counterpoint that should avoid the chop.

Please direct any questions, comments or abuse to this thread!

Kind regards

The Management

Great timing, do it when I'm away!

I have a feeling that people moving while you are away is a common occurance in your life.

They are staying still, I'm moving. But it's all relative I suppose.

Do you think this site will suck less if hosted in the US instead of yurup?

Silly question. mr.G will now need a visa to post, so we know how that's gonna turn out.

Or a MasterCard, we all will.

I'm sorry, I can't read through the archive. I've posted way too much annoying shit.

Question: won't all threads be archived offline anyway? It can't be more than about 60 gigs, by my calculations.

well backup copies of the database are saved of course, but once threads are removed from the live database, they can't be reintegrated easily.

Actually it's almost 30 Terabytes, mostly funko and venom's fault.

I'm confused by a thread that has 12 replies and 2 views...

We did go through a phase of learning how to reply without viewing

I'm no Counterglowian!

How will this affect Funkobot?

How about just keeping in the archive all threads with more than 50 views?

Huh. Any dodge to avoid paying taxes, eh?

As a man I can see why this might be a concern to you.

That would mean the average message is around 35 KB. Wow... even factoring the metadata, that's a lot. So I'd say it might more Darkstar's fault ;).

I have a horrible suspicion that after a week of getting people to dig through the archive, The Management is going to reveal it as a hoax.

what, the archive?

Are you upgrading to v3?

Do we really have 30 terabytes of spam and ramblings?

I really doubt it.

Anyway, many threads are cached by google, so they won't be lost even if deleted, only difficult to find.
