. . . won't last during a hundred year storm. Ta Da! We now have to tear the multi-million dollar fuckers down and rebuild the foundations. Thank you Army Corps of Engineers.

Fucking brilliant. They fucked around with some experimental geotextile foundation (re: plastic) and they didn't lay enough of it down to stop the levees from moving when they get wet. They basically admitted to building a levee to hold millions of tons of water out on a damned slip n' slide. Who'd have thought that levees could get wet during a hurricane!?!? Certainly not the Corps. Fucking retards. These are the little tidbits that no longer make me want to read my newspaper in the morning. It is never good news anymore. One shitty story after another.

Viva New Orleans.

It's not really the Army Corps' fault. It's the fuckers in Congress who always want to cut spending on needed items (education, roads & bridges, leaves, etc) so that they can spend more on stupid things (money for companies which bribe them with donations, increasing defense when we already outspend the next 25 countries combined (and the reason is point one, bribery) subsidizing religion, buying votes with farm subsidies).

You forgot the annual pay raises ... Which is literally the only time the Dems and Reps vote on the same side.

Some state rep here just tried to push through nearly 50,000 in pay raises and bonuses for herself and her fellow reps a few months back. That would have been quite a raise from the 15 grand she makes now. I'm assuming we need to pay more than any other state for our reps because being ranked 45th or higher in almost any meaningful category means these schmucks have been doing a good job, or so she thought. Luckily for my paycheck she was torn a new asshole by every paper in the state the next day so not a single politician stood behind her. It failed to get out of commitee IIRC.
