after about 40 tries over a period of 10 years, I finally had a letter to the editor published in last weeks' economist... and one taking a pot shot at rip-off London!

I can now stop reading it

So it was you (who wrote the letter). I must say the letter kept me enthralled (with the exciting use of parenthesis). Congratulations (for filling their magazine's space with more than ads).

Bloody foreigner, slagging off our delightful capital. Is a bit steep though, innit? ;)

Can you copy the letter here for those of us who can't be bothered to buy a copy?

Capital intensive
SIR – I read your article about London and Paris (“The rivals”, March 15th) while taking the Eurostar to St Pancras. On arrival in London I paid for my (costly) underground ticket and took my (delayed) ride to meet a friend (who shares his flat because he can't afford to live alone) for lunch (pasta at a price I dare not mention). Returning to Paris, I wondered if London's vibrancy and energy can be afforded only by Russia's nouveaux riches.

and may I say the (delightful) irony from (No longer) Trippin is always a joy.
