Yeah, it seems to have spread like wildfire all over the francophone world last year (including the maghreb (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBXqg4MXW1s) and the west indies (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-snFHrXyGQU)) and all over the blogosphere these past few months. In some ways it's this year's equivalent of the jumpstyle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyAvaLsLFl8) craze last year, with a similar affinity for dancing unpretentiously in public places , but I guess the phenomenon of dance crazes has made a huge comeback in general with the popularity of YouTube. Hip-hop (http://dancesfromthahood.mtv.com/Episodes.aspx?sort=feat) has the Aunt Jackie, the Pop Lock & Drop It, the Walk It Out, The Soulja Boy (of course), etc. etc. In Africa you've got the Bobaraba (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avQY6ZcxwCU), various Coupe Decale (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EJR0RCahos) variants, and many many more (http://downwithtunes.blogspot.com/2007/12/more-african-dances.html). Even older styles have had huge revivals - just check the fad for Northern Soul Dance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwCVDjyoMmo).

Obviously I'm down with the kids and the gays, and read about it in Dazed & Confused about a year ago.
