I've got a job interview in a couple of weeks. Is it worth getting a haircut for?

For the benefit of those who haven't seen me recently, I have long hair these days.

Wear a bald cap. Then whip it off in the middle of the interview.

Any excuse for getting a haircut is good enough. Unless your name is Simson

Whenever I grow my hair long, it seems to be a sign that I'm depressed about something. It's always very nice when I get it cut short again.

You should probably get a haircut, and then go on about it at length during the interview.

Cut it. You'll feel better.

Take scissors and start cutting your hair off during the interview.

then start a ritual fire with it

Have someone else, maybe your hairdresser, take the interview instead of you. That way you can keep the hair.

I mean in, 'hair isn't approved of by people who would hire you' bit. I haven't seen a picture of Laz recently and so don't know what his hair is like currently.

I know, the amazing thing is that I get women who are interested in talking to me at all (OK, I don't often, but still a girl gave me her contract information last Friday).

I am going for the wild man look. Mostly because I can.

Well, but I am not looking for a job/etc. If I had a job, or something more to focus on then research and graduating, I would feel like I couldn't.

I will need to look good and respectable a few months before my graduation (which could be as early as august, but is most likely to be december).

Funko

Why a few months before?

Venom
25-03-2008, 16:21:02
He has to practice haircuts before choosing one for graduation.

JM^3
25-03-2008, 16:22:17
Because I should start looking for jobs then.

I can get my university to pay for me (Easily) through December. So it isn't too stressful if I graduate in august (I don't need to find work right away). However, I would like to be payed more (Graduate students aren't payed much) and if I graduate in December I will need to get a job right away (preferably).

Post docs aren't paid much either. At least in biology.

JM^3
25-03-2008, 23:18:00
Well, in industry the pay is generally 80k+.

Post docs the pay is 35-60k (generally), I would probably be at 35k to 45k.

If I got some random job it would probably be 45k+.

All of that is a lot more then my current 20k.

Wow, if I'd done a postdoc in biology, 35k might have been achieveable through a cost of living adjustment. Been a few years now, though.

Depends on whether the employer gives a shit or not.

I suggest you ask them that, in so many words. It will tell you exactly if you want to work for them or not.

Funko
27-03-2008, 16:10:33
So you'd refuse to work for anyone if they wanted you to account for your time, or if they gave a shit about your appearance...

You're an academic aren't you?

Well, when you've only got one hair, it's easy to get sentimental about it.

Funko

We should get him to account for his time. I want reports on when he cuts hair, how long it takes, who's hair he cuts and how much we get paid for it.
