Lazarus and the Gimp

Due to it being given away free with the Guardian yesterday, I saw this for the first time. Here's a brutally honest review-

It was clearly filmed before acting was invented, and it's several billion light years away from "subtle"- the captions slamming in like Sun headlines. But, yes- you can see why this film is rated. The editing is surprisingly sophisticated, and the Odessa Steps sequence is clearly a work of genius.

Anyone else seen it?

Yes, long long time ago.

Too bad this is the culprit for all the pram-down-staircase sequences which followed in the history of cinema (see De Palma's Untouchables)

Gramercy was showing me a version that is being shown at the moment with a pet shop boys soundtrack done specially for it.

To that was "600 wet gay twats"

I saw it many years ago.

I seem to recall there is a scene where a guy lifts a slab of meat and it's covered with maggots, quite eye popping really.

The stairs scene is quite brutal too.
