I think he might become a wall street quant.

It's a possibility

Would you have to live in NYC? If you could make similar money living in some other part of the country, could be extremely lucrative. Or maybe you like NYC?

I doubt that Quants will play a big role in the near future (20 years or so).

during the entire next 20 years (starting now)? Or 20 years from now? Or what? And big role, like affecting the economy or big role like having a job?

And why?

And what do you define as a quant?

People who draw up crazy (or "sophisticated") mathematical models for investment.

They will have their niche, but be much less important and numerous than in recent years. And yes, I mean the next 20 years. Just my opinion on the cycles.

1. I think that quants as some sort of super-fancy technical analysts will have their limitations. HAVE had their limits. But that's not all that "quants" do in practice. I believe that their role has been changing over time.

2. Still don't understand what you mean by 20 years. Do you mean that they have a big role now. But about 20 years from now, won't? Or that for the next 20 years starting now, they won't have a role.

3. And what's the cycle stuff? You into your second degree market timing again? Not only can you predict a future decline, but you predict a future return?

To boost sales, Sanrio has also recently launched a slightly raunchy range where Hello Kitty cheekily displays her knickers.

Keep going at that rate and soon they'll be calling it 'Hello Pussy'...
