those 'comedy' Foo Fighter videos. How they poke fun at the cliche. How ironic.

I swear they don't realise.

Flea.

I knew it already but I'm here watching rage, an all night music video programme, and their (I can't bring myself to type their name and although more laborious, this is much more tolerable) video just got aired. They play a block party. yep.

Is it also a case that the Foo's videos get harder to watch coz their songs are getting worse?

My Chemical Romance.

That My Chemical Romance song that was popular with the kids this year sounds like a fucking Chaz & Dave song.

I inadvertently caught some Christina Aguilera 'singing' and it was so full of laboured cliched vibrato and melisma masquerading as genuine emotion, that it made me want to buy a ticket to travel to her home so that I could play her Mahalia Jackson live at the Newport Jazz Festival or Aretha Franklin's 'Live At The Fillmore West' c.d. so that she might be mortally embarrassed and become sufficiently self-aware so as to develop a sudden hankering for life as a Trappist nun.

Also Steve Tyler- I vividly recall having an instant violent response to a publicity photo of him in the 'Melody Maker' in the mid-70s, when Aerosmith were still little more than a bad version of a wannabe Stones' tribute band. And I hadn't heard that much of his music.

Have Aerosmith ever been anything other than a wannabe Stones' tribute band?

I hear they acquired (filched by association) a modicum of street cred from their hook-up on 'Walk This Way'.

I don't really believe it myself. But then people find Marilyn Manson offensive/shocking, so it takes all sorts.

I always saw Aerosmith as more an 80's big hair band (see Bon Jovi, Van Halen, etc) than as a Stones tribute band. /shrug

I learned about Aerosmith only when I got to know that Liv Tyler's father was a rock group leader

Going back to the question....
I fucking hate....

Shit cover versions of great songs brought out just to make money

Greg W

Actually, I hate the old 80s classics redone as (modern) RnB or hip hop or whatever the fuck they're called. They're classics for a reason, so don't fuck them with some modern doof doof beat. :bash:

And while I am at it, I hate the whole so called "Modern RnB" thing. RnB for fucks sake? It has about as much to do with RnB as a carrot shoved up Bugs Bunny's arse!

Typical rockist misunderstanding. "RnB" only means "black american", and has always meant only "black american" since it was first concieved as a genre.

See:

http://downwithtunes.blogspot.com/2007/11/genre-of-week-rhythm-blues.html Well, according to that article, it's "what Black Americans are buying". Fucking weird way to name a genre. Fucking weird basis for a genre.

So, in that case, I hate the RnB genre. :bash:

Oh, and as an aside, according to the all knowing Wiki, "modern R&B" is "contemporary R&B" whereas the original R&B is called... wait for it... R&B.

Mind you, it talks about Contemporary R&B being a black american genre (aka what they're playing, not what they're buying).

Scabrous Birdseed

It's not a genre, it's a marketing category. Like "Adult contemporary" or "modern rock". It's just stayed constant for nearly 60 years, that's all.

Greg W
20-01-2008, 14:59:53
Well... According to the all knowing Wiki it's a music genre. And we all know Wiki knows all. :cute:

Anyways, I shall rephrase that to:
"I hate anything RnB cos it's so fricken confusing that nobody knows what the hell it is because even 'music people' disagree with Wiki!".
