Following on from recent discussion K_G and I were having, heres a teaser.

We got onto this after hearing "What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted?"
How many songs are there out there where the question in the title is answered in the song? The title of the of song must be a question AND must have a question mark (ruling out Marvin Gaye's "Whats Going on" bizarrely).

We could think of one.

Would "What's My Age Again?" count? An age is given, and its implied that it's the age of the singer.

The seven inch version of Syl Johnson's "Is It Because I'm Black?" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKfZYgHm8So) does, but only barely and tenuously. Dammit.

Must... Think... of... an... answer....

The Pixies "Where Is My Mind?". It is way out in the water, swimming, is it not? ;)

I've come across a number of songs that answer a question with another question. Does that count?

Anyway, I found a really straightforward, acceptable-on-all-levels answer:

Q: "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsV59qnqZp0)

A: Young girls picked them, everyone.

What a waste, all those missing '?'s !!!

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/58/Quicksilver_Messenger_Service-Happy_Trails_%28album_cover%29.jpg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_Trails_%28album%29)

Track listing
"Who Do You Love - Part 1" 3:32
"When You Love" 5:15
"Where You Love" 6:07
"How You Love" 2:45
"Which Do You Love" 4:38

OTOH Bo Diddley's original does have the question mark, but the questions remains unanswered in the song....

I have 13 songs on my pc now with a question mark in the title, but I think the majority are not answered. A few that are:

Husker Du - What do I want?

The Smiths - What difference does it make? (It makes none)

The Streets - What is he thinking?
This is a bit more tricky, but since the subject of the question is also talking in the song, I think this fits the criteria.

Finally, some rhetorical questions that might be stretching it a bit: Bad Brains - How low can a punk get?, The Streets - Who got the funk? and What happened to you? by The Offspring.

Do answers like the ones you get by your boss count?

Q: Are you experienced?
Have you ever been experienced?

A:Well, I have

Q: Am I evil? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mt0QoZXfiYo)

A: Yes I am.

Somehow I get the impression that Diamond Head were more interested in widdly guitar solos than in-depth soul searching.

Q: Can We Fix It? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQCjelGK-JU)

A: Yes we can!

Tragically "Can your pussy do the dog?" remains unanswered.

"Who Let The Dogs Out?"

I think we all know the reply, although whether this canine response counts is another question entirely. I expected better from men of the Baha'i faith, I must say...

A quick browse through my iTunes reveals the following questions...

Q. "Is he your boyfriend?" (Antifreeze)
A. Yes

Q. "Are we there yet?" (The Ataris)
A. Yes, they get there at the end of the song.

Q. "What's my age again?" (Blink-182)
A. He does say he's 23, but the question is rhetorical.

Q. "Don't you know who I think I am?" (Fall Out Boy)
A. Not answered

Q. "Is this thing on?" (Less Than Jake)
A. Not answered

Q. "What happened to you?" (The Offspring)
A. Rhetorical question, but it does explain in the song what happened.

Q. "Where have you been?" (Reel Big Fish)
A. With another crappy boyfriend, but again rhetorical.

Q. "Do you know what I love the most?" (Saves The Day)
A. Yes - describes his relationship.

Q. "What's it feel like to be a ghost?" (Taking Back Sunday)
A. Not answered.

I feel very sad for actually having done this...

(I might add that my top played artists are nonetheless predictable - only the Beatles at #12 and the Lightning Seeds and the Killers at equal 19th punctuate the pop-punk emo and ska)
