Heard enough mortars landing when I was in Iraq. That seemed to be the main way insurgents would attack the base as anything else requires balls and a willingness to expose one's self to return fire. As it was the bastards could lob off a few rounds and run for it before the anti-artillery radar could work out the point of origin and the counter battery artillery could fire.

Not that it stopped the arty guys from firing but they almost never hit a bad guy since they'd set up in the back of a truck and fire their mortars while the truck was moving. Once in a while they'd get lazy though and use the same location twice and that's when the flying over watch would get them.

Some where I have a picture of my uparmor M1114 humvee after a mortar landed near where it was parked outside the palace we were staying at. Not much damage other then two flat tires and a piece of shrapnel through the side air conditioner vent. Tires were easy to fix but losing the AC pissed me off.

Well yeah. When you're outnumbered and outclassed you play to minimise casualties, not maximise kills. That's not lack of balls, it's good sense.

Wasn’t that how the Yanks largely beat the British in the War of Independence?

Maybe if the Americans want a ‘fair’ fight they should get rid of all their overwhelming firepower so the insurgents would feel confident going up against them mano a mano? No, didn’t think so…:cute:

Fair fight?

You have to think about one shot. One shot is what it's all about. A deer's gotta be taken with one shot.
