View Full Version : Desert Island Websites

Although this idea just occurred to me i'm guessing it's been done before. Who cares anyway.

So a la:

Desert Island Discs is one of Radio 4's most popular and enduring programmes. Created by Roy Plomley in 1942, the format is simple: each week a guest is invited by Kirsty Young to choose the eight records they would take with them to a desert island.

Name your 8 desert island websites.

First stab:
[edit] replaced google with facebook

1. Guardian Unlimited
2. Counterglow
3. Facebook
4. Youtube
5. Fantasy Premier League
6. Amazon (not sure if this would be much use on a desert island but let's pretend.)
7. Wowhead (ditto, but let's assume i can still play wow on my desert island laptop)
8. Wikipedia

Looking at that list, i guess a lot of people might go for the big three of Google, Youtube, Wiki

If you only have 8 websites, is Google actually useful, if it finds sites for you can you actually link to them? I think they'd have to be in for me for my igoogle page and/or gmail anyway.

1. CG
2. iGoogle/Gmail
3. Guardian Unlimited
4. BBC News (ok so a lot of it's shit, but it's comprehensive and I look there every day...)
5. Our local chat with our friends forum
6. Facebook
7. YouTube
8. fantasy.premierleague.com

Position 8 was very close between Myspace and Fantasy Premierleague. MySpace lost out on the basis that I can find a lot of music in video form on YouTube now.

5. Our local chat with our friends forumI was thinking you'd doubled up there for a sec, but then I realised the falacy of that reasoning.

For me, hmm... In no particular order...

1) CG
2) Sydney Morning Herald (News)
3) GMail
4) Facebook (even if it is only for keeping in touch with a few people)
5) YouTube
6) Fox Sports (cos I watch international sports as well)
7) Some Juarez site to download games from
8) The message board my friends (those I can afford to pay) keep in contact with

Any forum would be key as you could then have people look up things like www.howtosurvivedesertfuckingislands.com.

Nobody has inclued APolyton - I would have thought that something that reminded you how horrible dealing with parts of humanity is would be a real asset
