Part 1. The Netherlands

Edsger Wybe Dijkstra

We all remember his classic article "Go To Statement Considered Harmful" ...

http://www.bigpedia.com/encyclopedia/upload/thumb/c/c1/200px-Edsger_Dijkstra_large.jpg

He was obviously also the blueprint for the "John Fitzgerald Byers" character of the x-files show:

He invented the Dijkstra Algorithm. That's some kind of cool software for world domination purposes. He also hated to go to somewhere, so I guess he's still in Rottendamn

Part 2: Konrad Zuse (German)

According to Wikipedia he build "the world's first functional program-controlled computer"(according to RC Sid Meier invented "the first non-functional patch-controlled software").

Anyway, during the War Zuse build the Z1, Z2 and Z3. Most of them were fired at targets in London and Antwerp.

After he retired tried to be some kind of painter.

It's not that bad. No van Gogh though ...

Good job, Netherlands!
WTF, I just read all about this guy this monday, his Wikipage and everything. Our department for economic affairs wanted some examples of outstanding dutch IT achievements, so I gave them this. Weird you should come up with this 3 days later.

Dijkstra was notorious for his wit, eloquence, and way with words, such as in his remark "The question of whether computers can think is like the question of whether submarines can swim"

So who's next on your list? The Postfix guy or the Python guy. The postfix guy had an even cooler name than dijkstra (actually this is why I remember him)
