very enjoyable account of the greek-persian wars, with a fairer take ojn the normally vilified persians

the history in itself is absolutely amazing (Thermopylae is not even the most interesting, but the building of the different coalitions, the politicking behind the scenes, the dirty tricks, the philosophies behind both camps, all is absolutely riveting)

Holland is a good writer, it starts a bit slowly but then I could not put it down

heartily recommended for anybody with a passing interest in the period (that should include all the wargammers and history buffs here)
