I'm sorry to hear about this. In 2003 San Diego experienced the Cedar Fire which was the single largest fire ever to burn in the lower 48 states. Since we've had 3 years of drought since then the hills still haven't regrown.

At least the Greek government has spent money on an good fire fighting force as the Republicans who control San Diego literally fired half of the county fire department and then sold all of it's planes and aircraft in order to "save money". These worthless bastards STILL got reelected which just goes to show some people never learn.

The never learn part is especially true given how the Republican politicans were all knee deep in a fraud scandal with the city's pension fund and the current mayor (the right hand man of the mayor who was forced to resign in 2006) has been caught taking bribes to allow developers to break federal law. No matter how incompatent or criminal some how the Republicans continue to get reelected.

Living in a country which suffers regular bushfires, I can sympathise with you. I still remember this (http://images.google.com.au/imgres?imgurl=http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/images/38547000/jpg/_38547005_ausfire300.jpg&imgrefurl=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/2541789.stm&h=180&w=300&sz=13&hl=en&start=10&sig2=vf0FvcXgZdsQlFOWBS43PA&um=1&tbnid=8SM1YCXoe8GZaM:&tbnh=70&tbnw=116&ei=_mXTRpmAMZ6CggO3qv2YCA&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dsydney%2Bburns%2Bbushfires%26svnum%3D 10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26rls%3DGGLD,GG LD:2004-28,GGLD:en) from 2002.By the end of November, almost 470,000 hectares (1.16 million acres) of land had been burned in New South Wales alone.

The funny thing is, I just remembered that the fires from 1994 (http://members.ozemail.com.au/~macinnis/fireweek.htm) were worse.

Either way, I feel for the Greeks (and I don't mean in a reacharound kind of way).
