Weeks after the strike they queued me on the phone for 30 mins (I hung up).

Of course they asked me a lot of questions before they let me waiting (the generic computer lady).

They also said I could reach them using their website, but I got a "the server is not available" message.

You should never give up on hold, that means you have to call back later and be ahead of someone else in the queue. They did a study* that showed that the average person gives up 3 times before they eventually get through. They postulated that if no-one gave up on hold the queuing time would be reduced from 30 mins to 5 minutes. So by giving up you are making everyone's life worse.

*they didn't. I made it all up.

Quite possibly because no-one wastes the money on research, they just cut to the sale and are done with it.

You just need your research to be marketing in disguise. I'll get a company with notoriously bad call centres to sponsor the research and then release it in a blaze of publicity about how waiting times have been massively improved and the public are way happier. Then sloppy media outlets like the BBC will report as Science.
