As we figured out it's quite uncool to like the Rolling Stones.

Since I'm old enough to remember the Stones when they still appeared to be a real band and regarded as "OK" - I was 13 - I thought about what stereotypes and commonplaces about cool and uncool classic 60s bands, films, styles etc. exists among music enthusiasts and the hyped "hype" books.

Wow, long sentence.

This is what I noticed so far:

1. In general Beatles, Rolling Stones and Who suck.
23. Some of the mid 60s Who are OK, Tommy ff is tasteless megalomanical crap
3. The Kinks are excellent and the salt of the earth (oh no, wait, that was a Stones' song)
4. Pink Floyd is a laugh. Syd Barret is overrated, has some canonical value tho
5. "Pet Sounds" is one of the greates albums of all time
6. The Doors are pretentious crap
7. The Byrds are OK. "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" is underrated

Above that, Elton John posts here!

1. 60s Porsches rocks, it all went down in the early 70s

1. Vietnam was overrated, it was just a little war in some backwater. There have been much more important conflicts

That's all I learned about the 60s classics from posting here, reading the Rolling Stone and listening to people in the Biergarten during the last few days.

I think that people think that in general the Beatles were great and the Rolling Stones had a few really good songs but about 25 albums of suckiness.

60s films? Were they in black and white? Lame!

Vietnam, like Iraq but worse.

If you could go back in time and tell the average late 60's music fan that the most influential acts of that era would be James Brown and the Velvet Underground, they'd assume you were insane.

James Brown.....ok, the velvet underground way way way overrated.

I do laaik "songs for drella" when those two big egos made a record after so many years
