Normally it comes down to Pele vs Maradonna.

Vincent

I only broke my foot twice and had a torn ligament. So yes, it could be me!

There's no way Maradona could ever be better than Pele. Is Pele the best? Don't know.

I'm going to have to give the vote to myself. I'm not technically gifted but I will attempt to kill opposing players.

The hidden talents of Hasselbaink have remained hidden, or else he would have been the greatest

From the title - George Best, surely? ;)

I heard from my ex father in law that he thought Cruyyf was better than either of them.

Funko

And he did it whilst smoking 60 a day.

Vincent

Americans learn that Pele was the greatest soccer player (without ever having seen any games). Therefore he is.

Maradonna said it was George Best. So it can't be either of them.

Pele WINS!

Had he not been killed so young, some think Duncan Edwards might have been.

I've never heard of several of these. Not sure if you are taking the piss or I'm ignorant. (both are of course possible. even likely.)

Contenders are Pele, Diego Maradonna, George Best and Johan Cruyff.

There is a possibility that Maradonna was coked-up for much of his career which may have enhanced his performances. George Best was almost certainly drunk for some of his career which would not have enhanced his performances.

The original draft of the script was a serious drama, based on the true story of a group of allied POWs challenged to a football match by the Germans. The deal was that if the Germans won the match, the POWs would be set free in Switzerland. However if the POWs won, they would be shot. The POWs decided to go for 'victory', won the match and were consequently executed.

wow, i DID not know that.

Best was a great character and a uniaue entertainer, but you need to perform for more than 2 or 3 seasons to be at the top. Putting Best in front of Puskas or Platini (both of whom reigned at the top for more than 10 years) is just plain dumb.

FACT - If you haven't been the best of your generation for a good decade, you're a flash in the pan

anyway, these discussions are pretty sterile, because among others we don't define on which yardstick we measure them, and because of the difficulty to benchmark players of different eras

yeah, me too. But chances are the Germans wanted to lose, murderous bastards they are. That would have been a own goal match.

Funko

They would have won efficiently on penalties and then shot the Allied side anyway.

Cort Haus

Puskas

Yeah, he should be on the list. Not so sure about Platini.

Well invent one. Use the one you think appropriate. Sheesh. [/dealing with people at work mode]
