where all the whines and bitchfights about who knows best about what sorry subject can be placed

The management can then redirect all poly threads to there, where the normal people don't have to be exposed to this

Normal people :D

Yeah, that worked so well at ACOL.

It's an interesting internet phenomenon. It's similar in World of Warcraft. If a server (aka realm) is down, people create characters on other servers and act like idiots, annoying everybody else.

Once the server is back everything is back to normal.

We'd still have MrG though.

This idea sucks.

As Scabby says - was not such a great idea at ACOL. It just seems that Poly is just a big fucking virus.

Poly is the HIV of the internet.

I always read Scabby as Scabies.
Poly is the scabies of the internet.

AnnC (admin) created a separate, moderated forum where she started to move Poly-related threads and fucking around with them and the posters. This soured the atmosphere of the forum and eventually led to the conflicts that made the majority of posters leave. Don't remember the exact details but just a few months after she started using her power in the "unmoderated" ACOL forum a mass of people left for FFZ.

And we created CG.

Yes, CG is a community borne out of a conflict with an administrator at a Civilization-site that was abusing their power.

No-one suggested FFZ didn't come first?

I think CG came a couple of months later, about November the same year.

An Alpha Centauri site. The original AC community had already split along ideological lines with the 'serious' posters going to Poly where they could count on moderated forums to keep the nosense at bay and the 'spammers' to ACOL which had an 'anything goes' policy.

Apolyton moderation has been the same for at least 8 years, since I first went there, but ACOL went through a major change from no moderation to massive persecution of certain posters (which only encouraged them). We knew it was utterly pointless trying to convince the site administration to change their behaviour so we voted with our feet either to here or to FFZ. You can try and equate that with your pointless Ming baiting if you want but what you are trying to do is just the opposite. If you don't like it there, find somewhere else you do like or start your own site.

But maybe he would be banned at his own site?

If he was arguing with himself at least he'd have found an intellectual equal.

FFZ was an 'interum' ACOL until CG was ready.

You clearly don't post there enough if you don't see the parallels. Not my problem.

There's nothing wrong with a little bit of persecution evey once in a while.

Hasn't been much drama recently. I have a great idea, lets create a poly sub-forum, persecute them (and Greg W for the fun of it), then create a break-away site of our own!

I think to recall that ACOL was started by justin (asianflu) just to host a grid for PBEM matchmaking and organisation, put up on OWO by tOfFGI, or tfs, or some scandinavian player with t's and f's in his userid

I also recall that MarkG created the AC Multiplaying forum because players were coming to ACOL to use that service which Poly lacked, and came to ACOL to invite Aredhran and me and others to go there.

The Random Chat was created later.
At least at first, all the spammers had the decency to pretend they were also interested in AC gaming, to shoehorn some spam in. Especailly the british AC players (if such definition could be associated with Brits at all :p)

Please do not spread historically false concepts and statements about ACOL!
