No, the crying smiley is awesome. It's the blush smiley that needs a change.

I'd like a better cool smiley too. You can't have a cool smiley that looks geeky, it looks like some sort of ironic joke.

A cool smiley is oxymoronic.

Counterglow is, at its core, an old community formed by a group of regulars from the old alpha.owo, Firaxis and ACOL forums. It's been enhanced over the years by random additions of twats who want to to hang out and be twats with the regular twats.

It hasn't been enhanced, over the years, by people using it as a temporary staging post whilst hoping to return to Apolyton in a blaze of glory when their bans (whether official or self-imposed) are lifted.

It's up to the individual posters which camp they fall into.

That's not to say we don't welcome posters who also participate in other forums. It's just that, perhaps, they should attempt to understand the culture and subject matter of the forum before posting too much.

Absolutely. This is not the "poly refugee camp". It's had its own identity since about 1998/1999. If anyone wants to join in with that then they're welcome.

However that means accepting the fact that (with good reason) Poly is a sensitive topic here due to many examples of people treating CG as a temporary staging post from Poly and expecting to be lauded as some sort of hero for it. If you actually want to participate in what CG is (and you're welcome to do so) dropping Polytalk is probably the quickest way to achieve that.

Most reformed whore- yes.

Most dedicated fanny-hound- also yes. You've just switched to specialisation in one area rather than spreading yourself across many fields of study.

your lidless eye must have far greater sight than it than i'm aware, to come to that conclusion. not to mention you say this A) as if it were a bad thing, and B) it were not at my wife's request.

unless that is, i got really, really drunk one night and don't remember my posts here.

It's not a bad thing. I heartily approve.

Thanks for the info. I've never thought of Counterglow as an Apolyton refuge (although I did visit sometimes because Apolyton was down).

The distinct identity is quite obvious. My impression of CG is of a bit of an "artsy" place. I say that because I do not understand most references in the jokes used here.

My impression is also that the forum is overwhelmingly European.

Makes me want to make a Twainian style rejoinder...

There you go, I don't get that one. What's a Twanian rejoinder?

Greg W

At a guess, it's a reference to Mark Twain, as opposed to an in-joke...

Vet Legion: Sorry to be cryptic. He had a qoute along the lines of :"Say I were a congressman. say I were an idiot. but I repeat myself".

I got nothing against Poly, in fact I like Poly. It keeps a certain kind of people away from this place.

If people like Poly, it's OK. Everyone has a different taste, so I guess some people love that place.

I also think that trolling there and getting banned is not a big thing to do.

Coming here and telling about those excellent adventures is not gay
