release 27th july

03-07-2007, 16:31:04
Is that worldwide? I thought it was already supposed to be out in the US, but I guess I haven't heard anything about it.

03-07-2007, 16:37:28
its priced up in dollars and direct from Battlefront so I think thats worldwide.

03-07-2007, 16:39:03
interestingly play.com have it for 17.99 + p&p whereas its $60 direct (although that is the deluxe version)

03-07-2007, 17:11:20
I'm excited about this game. I need a new one.

03-07-2007, 17:16:17
me too. Its just a question if I can resist buying that ww2 pacific area sub sim until then.

03-07-2007, 18:27:58
Silent Hunter 4? I held off because the intial release was buggy as hell.

03-07-2007, 18:28:51
surely they have fixed it by now?

03-07-2007, 18:48:58
They probably have, but I stopped following along because I lost interest.

03-07-2007, 19:08:13
I lost interest in Dangerous Waters. They waited too long to patch, if they ever did.

04-07-2007, 15:25:40
I never really had any probs with it.

other than the fact i was shit at anything other than the helo :)

05-07-2007, 12:03:40
Not enough mission variety and quantity for me. The random generator was crap, and I'm on the belief that I shouldn't have to go hunting online for user created missions to enjoy a game.

13-07-2007, 19:29:22
It has gone gold.

13-07-2007, 19:31:48
woo, and indeed, hoo

16-07-2007, 12:42:43
Preordered today - which could jinx it.

Scabrous Birdseed
16-07-2007, 12:44:01
I thought this was a particularly ill-considered Champ Man game.

16-07-2007, 13:02:27
i think you're a few years late with the champ man jokes

16-07-2007, 15:24:15
Always helps you keep clean sheets when your central defenders have MG42 heavy machine guns and you goalkeeper has a panzer IV parked across the goal.

31-07-2007, 08:23:19
Eurogamer give it 5/10 - and the reviewer is a big CM fan

31-07-2007, 11:00:57
you think I'd have learned my lesson about preorders by now...

31-07-2007, 11:46:57
Ouch. Thank godness I HAVE learned my lesson about pre-orders.

31-07-2007, 14:03:32
I see I can download it in advance of my hard copy arriving in the mail. We'll see how it goes. Looks like its already got a patch waiting.

general impressions from the forums, which are in the usual immediate post-release 'OMG, borken gamez!' frenzy

broken pathfinding, TacAI worse than CM1, units taking fire through solid walls and buildings, head to head/TCP/IP games are real-time only (no I-go,you-go, we-go in those games), no point-based unit purchase system for quickbattles, no random maps, smoke doesn't block LOS and isn't available for most weapons (just vehicle-type defensive smoke mortars?), no "shoot-and-scoot" command, no morale

really good arty/air support system, improved 'unit-specific' spotting as opposed to the 'if one sees me, they all see and can fire on me' from CM1, multiple orders per-waypoint are possible (e.g., move forward to first waypoint, move turret right as you proceed to second, button up at third waypoint and move the turret forward left)

mixed reports on the scenario editor - powerful, but time-consuming and scenarios need extensive playtesting to be decent,
some people love the new UI, and others hate it

31-07-2007, 18:04:36
The shitty quickbattles system may be a deal breaker for me. That was my favorite part.

01-08-2007, 10:57:12
still playing the tutorial... I did notice one of my vehicles did a giant serpentine across an open stretch of ground to get to a waypoint, while taking no fire. Maybe drunken Marines are modeled.

the Javelin missiles were fun to play with, and A-10 and apache airstrikes... awesome

02-08-2007, 12:25:21
played a couple of scenarios now (battles, whatever)

The defending AI seems to simply ambush, then die in place. I'm hoping to stumble on a scenario that has a better plan programmed into it, like ambush and run away.

02-08-2007, 12:45:30
I've only heard psycho fanboys defending the game. I am not pleased.

08-08-2007, 12:30:56
I hadn't noticed, but someone just pointed out...

There's no water in the game. No streams, rivers, ponds, lakes. No water at all, not even in the map/scenario editor.

badly rushed, wait a few months, check back and see if its better

11-08-2007, 12:35:03
1.02 demo out, might be worth a look.

This is all very depressing but if anyone can turn it around the battlefront boys can.

with a bit of luck the tacAI will turn out to be something minor that is screwing things up.

20-08-2007, 15:51:49
been playing with the demo and I'm fairly impressed. not run into any problems although getting out of the old CM habits are hard.

Love a few of the features e.g. the ability to collect support weapons from APCs - in the demo mission I added javelin launchers to my HMG units for some real extra kick.

i would like to have seen the old unit info screens though. I want to know whether my tank can penetrate its target at this range and angle before I expose it....

20-08-2007, 17:22:42
javelins are fun for brining down buildings too

one thing I noticed is I tend to do stuff that would normally result in massive civilian casualties, like bring down buildings with heavy air/arty/missile attacks - but civilians aren't modeled, so I blast away happily

21-08-2007, 06:48:06
Is there a minimum range on the javelin I just had a group of them refuse to fire at a tank 150m away.

this is where I want the old CM info screen back.

21-08-2007, 11:03:00
I think there is, actually

apparently I'm wrong, there have been reports of direct fire with the javelin at under 150 meters

it seems you aren't the only one that thought it wasn't working, though, so it may be bugged
