The death of one of professional wrestling's most famous stars, ( :hmm: )Chris Benoit, is already proving as fantastic and bizarre as the world of pro wrestling itself.

There were no signs of gunshot or stab wounds, but the "instruments of death were located on scene'', Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department told an American broadcaster. Police were now considering it a "possible double-murder suicide'', he said.linky (http://www.smh.com.au/news/sport/wrestler-wife-son-die/2007/06/26/1182623874321.html)

When did he die? And I'm betting it was a drug overdose/steroid side effect like all the other wrestlers.

no he killed himself (supposedly)

killed his wife saturday, his son sunday, himself yesterday*

that's about all the facts available

*joke on the forums 'and on the fourth day, he rested.'

Judging by the time it took, I reckon he must have wrestled with his conscience...:cute:

I know fuck all about wrestling, and even I know who Chris Benoit is.

It does sound like a pretty crazy story though, be interesting to see how it pans out.

It would have been cool if he had sleeper held himself to death.

then why the raised eyebrows after "one of professional wrestling's most famous stars"?

Greg W

I just wouldn't have called him one of their most famous. But maybe that's me.

Chris Benoit was a pretty awsome wrestler (When I used to watch it religously around the late 90s? When The Rock and Stone Cold were huge!)

Still it's a horrible story :(

He's huge in the wrestling world.

Yup. Benoit was a former world champion, a multi time champion on the USA and intercontinental belts, intended next ECW champion, one of the top guys for making other wrestlers look good and generally one of the most hard-working, professional and most respected people going.

Whcih all makes it rather difficult for wrestling fans now, because he is basically going to be excised from wwe history.

Eh, I just wouldn't have placed him up there with Stone Cold, The Rock, or even such past stars as Andre the Giant. But as I said, maybe that's just me.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he was a nobody by any means. Then again, Wrestling is such a minority thing in Aus, maybe I just don't see his massive popularity.

the rock and stone cold are on a different level, sure. so is hogan. benoit didn't have any extra-brand appeal like those guys do. but those gusyare all semi-retired or retired. in the pantheon of active wrestling stars he was right up there.

and wrestling is a minority thing here too, and even in america really. i think raw gets about 4 million US viewers for it's monday night show?

The Rock, Stone Cold, and Hogan are more merchandise than wrestler. Like KG said, they're brands. But in "the business" Benoit would certainly be considered on par with those names.

The crippler was trained by my all time fav wrestler, the Dynamite kid, who did an awesome head butt off the top rope (which benoit copied).

Jeese. In one of those random twists, his son had Fragile X, a genetic condition that my brother has, and I am a carrier of.
