I've had some bad news- an old friend has killed herself. While I'm shaken, I can't say I'm entirely surprised- she had been ill for many years, and recently I haven't felt that her condition was being managed well.

If you should have some loose change knocking around, think about a small donation to a mental health charity. Depression is a horrible business.

Sorry to hear that. Isn't that the second friend to commit suicide? (That you've posted about)

This isn't the first friend I've lost to suicide, but I think you're confusing it with the time my co-worker died a few years ago- that was natural causes.

In this case, it was a move of home that did it. She was living in an urban shit-hole, but had a good GP and care workers where she was. Last year she finally managed her dream move to a lovely country home, but in doing so she lost her support network, and the medical services in her new home area were poor (as they often are in rural areas). When she started going into depression, she didn't get the same level of care and just went into an unstoppable decline.

My mother's cousin committed suicide in 1969 after a fight with his mother at a big family party. It really shook her up.
