After getting lots of lockups in MTW2 I've been poking around in my Bios looking at my CPU/GPU temp.

Any idea what normal temperature should be for a athlonXP 2600+.

I know max temp is 85 but mine seems to be hanging around 62 all the time. Seems very high when its not under any load.

I would have expected it to be in the upper 30s while idle, but I don't know what to expect for a specific chip

62 seems way too high

Depends on the scale

How do you check your temp?

With a thermometer

using the motherboard utility that came with it.

Just went out and got a new cooler, CPU is down to low 40s when slightly overclocked.

Sounds much better (and the new cooler is quieter too)

That's what you get when you overclock.

Yeah, overclock by at least another 30% if you want figures closer to room temp.

Mine never goes over 60. Gee, you're overheating by 2 degrees!

CALL THE FIREBRIGADE!

Alternatively, just use the bloody thing until it breaks.

My Core 2 Quad at 2.9GHz idles at 35C. It peaks at 45C. It's awesome.

mr_B's avatar is running hot, and I don't think a fan is going to change anything
