Hi. My name is Johan, and sometimes I make mixtapes. My Fiancée is making one for her friend and she's asked me to help her find good songs.

The problem is that the girl is currently listening to, well, excrement basically. Jamie Cullum and Katie Melua features highly on her playlists. Is there any decent music you guys can think of that at least borders on this easy-listening adult pop vomit?

klaxons - golden skans

i was reading an article saying the klaxons were brilliant because with this track they will have tricked thousands of radio 2 listneners into buying their otherwise raucous and objectionable-to-parents album

The Shins do a nice brand of ear-friendly americana which my overly critical senses don't object to one bit.

edit: They have a new album out called 'Wincing The Night Away' and a recent single called 'Australia'

Why not try 60s/70s West Coast Americana ?

America for instance- 'Horse With No Name', 'Ventura Highway'- or
Neil Young, Mama Cass, the Mamas & The Papas, 1910 Fruitgum Co., Ohio Express, the Byrds, or late 60s/70s Brit Folk-Rock- Davy Graham's 'Anji', Sandy Denny singing 'Who Knows Where The Time Goes ?', Pentangle and 'Light Flight'...

or even the Velvet Underground and 'Ocean'.

Anything is better than the death by cotton wool and puppies and kittens overload that she'd get from Kamie Mellumua.

Yeah! I'll make one with only Herp Albert, James Last, Mantovani, Bert Kaempfert and Klaus Wunderlich tracks. Genius.

Or the stuff from Quincy Jones' bossa nova album. They use it here for the little music bits on the saturday radio football show
