View Full Version : nerdish things and their nerdishness ratin on the Nerdscale

Bob

The nerdscale is

0 - maximum nerdity
1 - extremely nerdish
2 - very nerdish
3 - nerdish
4 - slightly nerdish
5 - normal
6 - slightly non-nerdish
7 - non-nerdish
8 - very non-nerdish
9 - extremely non-nerdish
10 - not nerdish at all

(note that the nerdityscale starts wit zero, which is a very nerdish idea)

Let's say Startrek Conventions held in Klingonese - that's a 0 ?

Using a common pencil and a notepad (annual gift from BMW dealer) to make a list of phonenumbers is a 10 ?

Bob

No. 10 is the most unnerdish number on that scale , because it has two digits,

0 is the most nerdish number - nerds invented the zero. Normal people have no use for zero. Everyone (except nerds) starts counting at 1!

Explaining that to someone who isn't really nerdy enough to understand = 2N

He'd use a batavian xon slave to calculate

Funko

Doesn't being really good at maths automatically move you up the scale from being a xon? I wouldn't hire (or enslave) a xon to do my maths. No way.

The 0101N nerdscale is

0101 - maximum nerdity
0100 - extremely nerdish
0011 - very nerdish
0010 - nerdish
0001 - slightly nerdish
0000 - normal
1111 - slightly non-nerdish
1110 - non-nerdish
1101 - very non-nerdish
1100 - extremely non-nerdish
1011 - not nerdish at all

Tizzy
04-05-2007, 09:52:43
Creating a 0101N scale = 0N

Bob
04-05-2007, 09:52:47
That's bad designed, because you have

nerdish
normal
non-nerdish

the first two bits should represent the status

00 - normal
01 - nerdish
10- non-nerdish
11 - undefined (future use)

MoSe
04-05-2007, 10:03:58
bah, I just used 2's complement for negs

anyway, you have nerdish, and then normal, which is then not nerdish

but then you also have non-nerdish, and normal is not non-nerdish

so in your view being normal is being neither nerdish nor non-nerdish

but you place it halfway the scale from absence of nerdishness to absolute nerdity

this doesn't work

you should replace non-nerdish with a definition of an attribute opposite to nerdish, I'd daresay the nerd complement

In that view, being normal doesn't mean not being nerd, it means being average nerdish, it means a balanced nerdishness it's the ideal condition

Tizzy
04-05-2007, 10:06:25
What if you're normally nerdy?

how nerd is that?

Bob
04-05-2007, 10:09:00
It's just a construct to find a term, like Xon. You shouldn't focus too much on grammar rules. If you like it better call it mirror-nerd

Bob
04-05-2007, 10:10:57
And of cours you need value like N. For example: 20 EUR. Ist that nerdish or non nerdish? No, it's clearly 5N

Funko
04-05-2007, 10:12:20
Euros are less nerdy than pounds.

Me too. I think we lose nerd points for that.

MoSe
04-05-2007, 10:15:53
the term you use makes all the difference of the world in lack of a defintion of the normal state

it makes the difference between

normal = not nerd at all

and

normal = fiftyfifty nerd, average nerd, which thus IS nerd still

normality can't be undetermined

Aristotle said it (in Latin of course) "Tertium non datur"
