funny part is that the character who plays sandman is the leading actor in Sideways (Venom's fav. movie)

Venom
01-05-2007, 15:20:06
He was also in an old sitcom with, I think, the lady from Will and Grace. Not the crazy one, the other one. Debra Messing I think is her name.

Funko
01-05-2007, 15:24:14
You know the actors in Will and Grace and accused sideways of being gay?

Venom
01-05-2007, 15:35:05
I even knew what Sideways was about. And I knew the guy was in Sideways. I know a lot about movies and TV. My lack of friends and desire to do no work means I have a lot of free time.

Funko

In my not so humble opinion.

Spider-Man 1 ...............7/11
Spider-Man 2................8/11
Spider-Man 3................7/11

Saw it at the weekend. I thought it was really good. The villains were the best so far and the story was a lot better than I expected, although there was a lot crammed in.

The much maligned dark Peter walking down the streets of New York was actually hilarious. No-one mentioned Bruce Campbell's great cameo either. (or Stan Lee's pointless one). I guess they are building up Doc Conner for a possible appearance of the Lizard if there's a 4th film?

In my opinion:

1. 7
2. 8
3. 8

Just watched this now, in my opinion:

1. 8
2. 9
3. 6

It's far far too long, there's far far too much bad cgi (like every sandman bit), that whole jazz bar bit was totally unneccessary, really cringy, and like something from a Naked Gun film or that bit in Anchor Man.

"The much maligned dark Peter walking down the streets of New York was actually hilarious"

Hmm, really? It was just plain shit. More disco Peter than dark Peter.

Still ace though. Spiderman films rule.

I was laughing. Although that's possibly at least partly because Mr_G had described it as "Peter doing the architecht walk" beforehand.

a 6/10 doesn't indicate "still ace" to me.

The other thing is, I was expecting it to be shit after Venom slated it, so it exceeded my expectations.

Funko
26-11-2007, 14:43:51
Oh in fact he also mentioned the architect thing in this thread.

6 out of 10 relative to the 9 out of 10 I gave the second one, still ace relative to every other comic franchise.

King_Ghidra
26-11-2007, 14:51:57
sin city was good, x-men 1 and 2 were good, i'd score them above 6/10.

mr_B
26-11-2007, 14:54:09
sin city is WICKED

Debaser
26-11-2007, 14:58:29
I thought Sin City was boring, X-Men 1 was ok, and haven't seen X-men 2. I don't really like fantasy explosions and violence films on the whole, I just quite like Spiderman. I like the fist one a lot, like the second one even more, and like the third one a little bit less. That is all. Can we please stop analysing my rating system now please.

Debaser

Too long, too CGi based, and evil Peter is just a bit crap (though he does have a pretty good haircut).

Sin City started off ok, and some set pieces I really enjoyed, but I find that whole noir style a little bit heavy going and slow paced, with Frank Miller's comics as well as the film. I'm not really a comic buff at all, and I like stuff like 8-Ball and Optic Nerve rather than fantasy/super hero titles (with the exception of Spiderman). Ghost World is probably my favourite comic book based film.

the only problem i had with sin city was the middle segment which was ridiculous (even though it did feature the delicious devon aoki)

I'm struggling through this film at the moment. It's just a bit crap. None of the characters have changed at all through the trilogy and have had essentially the same conversations for two and a half movies. Sandman is a boring villain. Haven't got to the evil Peter bit yet so if that's the worst part of the movie I don't imagine my opinion will improve.
Very disappointing.

fp
27-11-2007, 15:15:57
Also very lazy storytelling about the origins of Sandman. No explanation attempted for what on earth that weird sand experiment was supposed to be. I know its only a comic book movie but they at least made an effort with Green Goblin and Doc Ock to develop the characters, their motivations and origins.

Finished watching this last night. The Evil Peter bit was actually pretty funny, although I think there were one (or two!) more shots of him doing the architect walk than was really needed. I really like him humiliating Brock and kicking the shit out of Harry. Spiderman should act like that more often IMHO - he's a bit wet in the movies.

The ending was sappy, and the film needed far more of Venom, but taken as a whole the film wasn't as bad as I had feared it would be.

My rankings for the movies out of 10...

1. 8
2. 8
3. 5
