Here's a game called Desktop Tower Defense (http://www.handdrawngames.com/DesktopTD/) I've been playing a lot the last few days. A work buddy showed it to me and I've been hooked ever since. It is along the same lines as the one in this thread (http://www.counterglow.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36972).

Couldn't get past normal yet, spent a lot of time on easy w/o realizing towers do block the path of enemies :o

If you hit "send next wave" early, before the creeps are all dead, you increase your bonus, which gets added to your score at the end of the turn.

Pellet tower slows at level 6
Dart and Frost gain splash range with each level

Speed is estimated based on the number of shots a tower can get off in the time it takes the dart tower to reload and probably not entirely accurate, but...oh well.

Look at some of the top scorers maps for hints.

Start off with cheap pellet towers to funnel both entrances of creeps into the same maze, then build a diagonal zig zag maze rather than a straight up and down maze, it takes them longer to traverse it.

The secret is having some uber upgraded towers in the middle with maximum range and firepower and a really long maze.

Use splash and pellet towers almost exclusively. Possibly some bash or swarm towers.

I quite like the stun towers at the end of rows, but I'm not sure if that's acually effective.

I'm finding actually that diagonal lines might be less effective, or maybe it's just harder to get them right.

But I like the second one better, its' more of a combined arms... some cock ups with the aeroplanes, hence swarm panic. And it was really crap having swarms right in the center, which is the best place for your big guns.

Frosting them at the beginning so they go slow, and then blasting them with the ICBM tower was a nice combo.

Shouldn't a spiral towards the centre and then out be a fairly good maze? Don't have time to test it out ATM.

I tried it but screwed it up, got to level 49. I think it'd work. You get them to circle a central hub of really hard shooters.

had a plan here but it seemed to backfire, I guess there wasn't enough firepower in the end, should have done a round of serious upgrading earlier,

I build symmetrical layouts, splitting up the groups. Probably not the most efficient way to go about it re firepower, though I don't leave a lot of space unused. My top score is 1600-something at easy level.

This has the same problem as several other games like it...since you can sell stuff you can change your maze on the fly and make the enemies bounce around your maze forever. I just got 5174 with this maze (I forgot about the thing with sending the next wave for a while.) Had 14 lives and 800+ gold left.

Wow, you guys dig in quickly. I'm not sure what my best score to date is. I played a bunch earlier this week, but the later part of the week has been hectic as all get-out. Now that we have a counterglow group, I'll definitely submit my high scores there. Fully upgraded squirt and pellet towers 4tw!

They are the best pricewise, but I have never gotten there. I like the idea of the Bash Towers, but maybe the Stun is nevber long enough.

This is my latest map. The middle area does most of the damage (the top two and bottom two DA towers used to be swarm turrets) and the PE tower down the bottom forces the creep to move back through the maze again. Easily makes it through medium difficulty, struggles with hard. Someone else go into the top scores with it though (which is where I found the design). I've had better success upgrading the PE turrets once, doubles their damage at the cost of only 5 more gold.

I'm pretty simple-minded when it comes to this game so far. I've tried the various tower types but I keep going back to the pellet and squirt ones.

As for getting to fully upgraded squirt towers, try just placing a single one in a key location and upgrading it only. The jump in power when you upgrade the tower the last time is pretty cool to see. A single fully upgraded squirt tower can hold whole waves of enemies at bay in the early to mid game.

When I first started, I tried to place a whole map full of towers, then upgrade them. I found it irksome to keep track of all those upgrades, and it is difficult to fund. Now I have adopted more of a minimalist approach - placing just enough towers to control creep flow and then upgrading or replacing select ones.

You guys who play strategy type games more than I do probably already have your own groove.

The bash tower stuns for a few seconds, but even with a fully upgraded tower it only stuns like 20% of the time iirc.

I'm mildly addicted to it. Not getting the same kind of scores as some of you, but working on it...

I've never ever managed to stop both of those flying bosses at the end of medium. Makes me so mad.

Then sell them as soon as the planes are dead and upgrade a lot of your other towers. If you know you aren't going to be able to upgrade the two swarm towers before the final flying bosses come, you can sell them earlier too and just accept the 2 hits.

I'll have to try the swarm towers. I sometimes kill them, sometimes not. When I kill them, it is usually with fully upgraded squirt towers, but that only happens if there is enough concentrated firepower to have already mostly killed the preceding "spawn" boss.

Dark guys have armour. On hard you can't hurt them unless the gun does at least 40 damage per shot.

Yeah, but they do an insane amount of damage upgraded. Look at the top scorers, they use squirt towers with max upgrades surrounding those boost buildings.

Harder levels open up new towers.

If you play on Hard there are towers that give a 10% boost to all towers they touch. Maxxed you get a 50% boost for each of them.

To see how stupid powerful the squirt guns are, go to the 4k challenge, make a 3 by 3 square of towers with squirt towers on each of the 4 corners and 6 boost filling in the rest. Max upgrade them all.

The only time you will lose any life is when the spawn bosses come.

It costs 2k to get the boost towers and about 1600 for the squirt towers.

If you notice the all time high score player his top score is that setup. He saved and built up in the center then cleared the rest of his maze away.

Although he also had some anti-air towers.

The multiplayer version is now out at http://www.casualcollective.com

At the moment it's invite only. If anyone wants an invite let me know. I can create a Counterglow group.

Have played a few games of this so far. It's pretty awesome.

Basically the way it works is that you have to kill each wave as fast as possible. The first person to kill a wave wins the round. As soon as a wave is dead the next wave is released for all contestants.

I just started this and posted a few scores. They're crappy scores but I suck so that's the way it goes.

Anyway, does anyone know how to get rid of the chat box and how to enlarge the actual play area? It's cut off on my browser, plus when I go to the counterglow group scores I can't scroll down. I'm stuck at whatever fits in the box from the top (mostly ads) to the part whwere the actual scores are.
