Nope, used to get Good Fridays off school as a kid, but I don't think they even dare that anymore. Too many lawyers waiting to pounce.

Something wrong with a festival celebrating chocolate?

Man, in the US we don't get any days off for this holiday. If someone is religious and wants to take Good Friday off then they have to use a vacation day.

Now Tanzania was great in this respect. They had about twice as many public holidays as we do and each one carried over to the following monday should it fall during the weekend.

My mum told me about a university student friend of hers who was fairly angry that Easter Sunday didn't carry over to the tuesday. The fact that it was always on a sunday didn't seem to matter.

Having no Easter holidays is one of the things I really miss about moving to the US. But then I remember that we get a 4 day weekend at Thanksgiving, which I suppose makes up for it, even if March/April is a bit stingy with other vacation opportunities.

Plenty of holidays in the US:

I love this one:

Last Wednesday of April: Administrative Professionals Day;
A day for honoring secretaries and other administrative personnel, formerly Secretary's Day
