Not really sure about here. There is a park near Christopher Newport University (never heard of it before moving nearby). There is also the Mariners Museum there.

Other than that the new city center area has some bars of the type that you find at all such places...

What should I do?

I think you should wank to some porn. That'll cure your inquisitiveness.

what kind of advice do you need?

I used to live there up until 1998.

When I first arrived in late 93 my ship was in the shipyard at Newport News shipbuilding on 32nd street. The ship was uninhabitable, so they put us in some crime ridden apartments not too far from the ship. I got to witness one gunfight. Sadly, no one was killed. The place was teeming with cockroaches.

Later on after we "had" to move on the ship, I got an apartment with some buddies in Hampton (it's all pretty much one city in my book). Later I got an apartment back in Newport News. It's much better than living on the ship. I only lived on the ship for extended deployments.

My last apartment was better. It was by the freeway (64 iirc). I can't remember the streeth.

Generally the farther North/Northwest you go, the better the neighborhood. :).

As for stuff to do, I remember going to one club inside that one hotel place. Other than that, my buddies always liked to hang out at this one redneck bar called Hoss's deli. In fact, that's right next to where I lived when we moved back into Newport News.

Or we went to the Hooters not too far away.

There isn't much else to do there.

Back when we lived in Hampton, we'd go to the dancer bar. You can't call it a strip club since the women can't show anything over there. I often wonder why my buddies wanted to waste money in such a crappy place. One place we went to in Hampton was called the treasure chest. It was nice since it was close, and we always drank and drove. The women can't show anything less than a bikini though.
