It's now come to the point where it's easier in many cases to find and listen to songs on YouTube legally than it ever was by P2P. It's time to have a thread where we can post YouTube videos of tracks we find exciting at the moment, and have people write scathing putdowns about our music taste. Share the flavour!

#1. Ever since I read about it on the internet three years ago, I've wondered what the modern version of northern thai music style Morlam sounded like. Finally, thanks to YouTube I can find out. Note the seamless transistions between gentle folk poetry and headbanging metal.

I'm not sure all the songs on YouTube are strictly legal, but it's a good idea none the less.

Here's Prince stealing the show at a George Harrison tribute concert. Check how he solos right through Tom Petty's last vocal spot much to the amusement of Dhani Harrison, then exits the stage in the cooles way possible, not even looking at the other stars on the stage:

Brilliant. He knows how to make an entrance, too - just strumming and letting everyone else do their stuff and then flooring them all.

Anyway, what I mean by legal is that no-one is gonna boot us off the server for posting links to YouTube Videos. Which is good enough for me. :D

Okay, this isn't strictly a video but a homemade pic montage over a track. Never mind, it's the song that's interesting.

I think Kansas City, which combines the traditional chicago-style fast-rapping with a west-coast/southern feel, is a great up and comer in the hip-hop world. This is some kind of all-star track.

You may note Tech N9ne (middle rapper) is the best of the lot. His last album Everready is one of my favs from 2006.

This may have been mentioned on here before, but it's funny and appropriate so...

The worst rap video/song ever? Speak, from Hungary. Make sure you watch it long enough to see the other memers of his 'crew'.

Awww. They're so cute, like an old couple.

Rather more controlled (well, of course) studio footage of Giorgio Moroder a few years earlier:

Well, since you've just been to Japan here's one of my favourite tracks from the eighties Techno-cayo period.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCdsAWzGdBQ

It's got everything - secret agents, robots, seduction and that's just the title. Be sure to hear Jun Togawas deep contralto voice towards the end.

They're an unknown band who had a moderate hit recently because their song was featured in a car advert. :D

Bellrays - Voodoo Train live.

Full on rock'n'roll with punkish leanings and Lisa's big black soul diva vocals. Everything a live band should be. Saw them a number of years back and they were phenomenal.

Pretty good indeed.

Here's a nice South Park-style music video by Jawat. It's Dutch hiphop so the music might not be of quite so much interest to you, but the clip is nicely done:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSMPdVnaG_8

Also, on a related note, more Dutch hiphop. These guys (Duvelduvel) will be playing at the festival where Pete and the Pirates will play.

Squeeze - Up the Junction.

Not only a magical pop song (without a chorus no less) but this video also features the band performing the track on the Top of the Pops xmas special, all playing the wrong instruments for larks.

The Stranglers - Sweden

Quite an odd song really, disjointed yet catchy and a very, very odd video. I'd fuck a 1,000 horses to be able to play bass like JJ Burnel.

Inspired by the Crucifucks video, I was looking around for some more 80's hardcore that I listened to in the past. Don't bother looking for MDC, they're fucking awful live (not great on cd either actually), but here is a cool clip of Minor Threat playing 12XU and Small man, big mouth. Great interaction with the crowd too. :D

Hip-hop has had a bizarre turn towards the video-game synth-classical in the past couple of years. Producers like The Runners (out of Miami) started the trend and veterans like Mr Collipark/DJ Smurf have latched on. Here's a favourite from last year (ignore the last bit, that's done traditionally with samples):

Otherwise I'm still heavily, heavily into really really gay music.

(And yes, that's someone's crap montage rather than an actual video)

Gramercy Riffs

My, that certainly is very gay.

So is this I suppose, but its pretty amazing too.

Jonzun Crew are really cool.

I'm slowly drifting back towards rock sounds now. Especially stuff which combines rock and non-rock.

Just bought Neil Young's experimental synth-rock classic Trans on vinyl today, here's a cool live video from german TV:

Another current favourite is Phillip Glass-produced Minimalists Polyrock:
