View Full Version : I should be disappointed in myself.

But I'm not which goes to show how spoiled I (we) have become. I went into a local bar (really it is a chain store though) called The Yard House which is famous for two things 1) Selling beer in glasses which are 1 yard tall 2) For having 300 types of beer on tap at any given time.

I was looking over their beer selection and I found myself wondering if that was all and why couldn't I find a decent beer I liked. 300 beers on tap and they all sounded the same. What's the world coming to?

To be fair a lot of those 300 were just a bunch of crap versions of the worst mass market domestic beers. A dozen different versions of the same piss called Budweiser (Bud, bud lite, bud ice, bud draft, etc...) and equal numbers of similiar products from the other mass market breweries with a nice list of the biggest foreign mass market makers but not to much in the way of micro-brews or craft made beers. I guess since the place is a national chain they have to stick to the big nationally available beers but it seems a disappointment to offer 300 beers 50% of which are total crap and the other 50% are just passable. Where is the good stuff? Screw these big chains; they all suck.

Or the UK!!!

In fact in Cardiff, our Welsh 'mass market' (for Wales!) brewer, Brains (http://www.sabrain.com/index.cfm?alias=ourbeers), still brews cask ales in the traditional manner and has a virtual monopoly of pubs in Cardiff and SE Wales.

Not sure I like the virtual monopoly bit - but at least it means you are guaranteed good beers wherever you go round here!

And it makes for amusing sponsorship when you have Welsh rugby players with Brains on their shirts.

Except in France where they apparently aren't allowed alcohol company sponsorship on their shirts so they go with 'Brawn' and 'Brawn Again' to get around the rules...

that's correct, the "loi Evin" forbids most advertising for alcool, and all for tobacco

I guess my big point is that there are loads of great beers in the US and most of the local pubs stock the local micro brews but this big chain doesn't. They relay on the claim that they have 300 beers on tap but virtually all of those 300 are beers no one likes or cares about but which the chain can get dirt cheap by buying in bulk for all of the stores in the chain. I think I'll stick to the locally owned places instead wasting time with the big national chains.

I've seen you type this several times before but I'm still not connecting the dots as to why you're posting it. I know it's a joke but can you explain how it is funny?
