We need to have another CG meet. What's left of us anyway.

Suggest times and places. Anywhere, anytime. Eventually, maybe, some sort of consensus might be reached and we'll actually have a meet.

Venom

Places and times that people like maroule and Dyl cannot attend, get bonus consideration points.

I am a bit short of leave etc. this year so would favour London/Reading.

Venom

A bit short of leave? don't you lazy fucks get like 82 days off a year?

Yes. And it's (almost) all accounted for already.

Budapest, Hungary. Late August.

You know you want to.

Funko told me to start it. I didn't want to.

Funko

It was your idea, you make the thread.

Budapest is a great city. Not sure August is a great month.

Tizzy

Hmm, so you do what Funko tells you?

I'm sure I can use this fact for evil purposes.

I liked Budapest a lot and would in theory be up for going back.

Funko and I are already going away for over a week in September though so it might not be possible for us.

A part of me honestly wonders why you assume we would want to come, and another part likes the idea of joining unannounced to spoil it :D

anyway, with a baby to be born in late may, my available time to meet internet nerds is drastically reduced

Funko
17-01-2007, 17:08:46
We got fairly central self catering accomodation pretty cheap in Budapest, I'd rather do that than have the hour commute I think.

I reckon May or earlier or October onwards are best for Tizzy and me, but we could consider other dates.

Ok so destination suggestions so far:

London
Rotterdam
Budapest
Italy/Greece or Spain (JM gets specific)

Firm suggestions:

Scabby: Budapest in late August/early September
MDA: London in September
Drekkus: Rotterdam in May

Ludicrous suggestions:
The Mad Monk: Make it out of the bar

Rotterdam is about 45 mins via a fairly cheap train from Amsterdam so if people were coming from the states you could easily see both places in the same holiday.

One option if people have never been to Europe before and are coming all the way from the states would be to fly into one city, travel and see some stuff and then fly out from another city.

eg. You could fly into London, stay for a night or two, travel on the Eurostar through France to Brussels, stay there a night, and then go onwards to Amsterdam and/or Rotterdam which are fairly close and fly back from Amsterdam.

Or a similar combination with various other European cities. That's just a trip I've looked into in the past.

Budapest might be an option for me as well, in particular around the time for Sziget (early august I think) where I might go this year. Madrid would be very convenient if the meet was in the weekend of either the 16-17th of june or 23-24th of june, as I'll be around there for the week in between anyway. Other locations and other dates might be possible too ofcourse, and the availability of cheap flights would obviously help.

Why don't you fokkers ever come to the Carolinas.Biltmore house or The Grove Prak Inn in North Carolina's mountains. Or Cherry Grove in North Myrtle Beach in South Carolina.
Probably going to the beach in July,

Also St Pete Beach on the Gulf Coast ... with old pollack friends from growing up in NY.... is nice and then scoot up to friends near Orlando and Disney World... all in April around Easter time.

Just think about it.

RedFred

That is bad. I have freinds who tried to make sure that their doors and windows were all really well sealed. Like putting plastic on them.

i didn't do that. probably should have. windows are closed in the bedroom (well everywhere), but wind still comes in.

I had thought i would have done better this last bill, but i didn't realize that the gas used to run the heater would cost so much. So while I lowered my electricity usuage but alot, my gas bill soared.

Yeah, you should be able to seal them better. Will save you in the summer also.

So basically no two people can agree on one place for the meet.

I'm willing to do Rotterdam and, if absolutely necessary, Barcelona*. But I think I'd prefer Paris, Milan or Budapest.

*nothing wrong with the Catalan capital, it's just that I recently visited it.

Budapest, Milan, Paris, Barcelona, Rotterdam in that order...

Which incidentally is in reverse order of when I've visited them and which I'd prefer if I haven't been there.

(I'd really like to go to Budapest, even if it is a bit of a pain for me to get to.)

Here's an idea... (ignore 4* hotel bit of course)

3. Only here for the bière

Switzerland's largest and probably the world's most civilised beer festival, the Fête de la Bière in Lausanne, runs from 31 May to 3 June. It's not on the stag party circuit (unlike Tallinn's in July) and though there's plenty of drink on offer, it should remain orderly. There's a generous provision of 200 different beers grouped in pavilions to try. Entry to the festival in the Place de la Navigation is free and the view of the mountains on one side and Lac Léman should clear the head after too much cloudy ale.

Where, who, how much? The Swiss Beer Festival ( fetedelabiere.ch) takes place in Lausanne 31 May-3 June. Travel to Lausanne with Railbookers ( railbookers.com), which offers two nights at the four-star Alpha Palmier including return Eurostar and train travel via Paris and room-only accommodation from £269.
