I went into work today, and found out that while I was off over Christmas, 3 members of my department were fired for e-mail/internet misuse, and at least a dozen others placed on disciplinary proceedings.

Coupled with the fact that another of my team left abruptly over the same period, I've got stupid amounts of work to do. And I need to train up replacements.

Happy arseing new year. Wish I worked somewhere where they didn't care about that sort of thing.

Were they forwarding emails to the entire organization?

But yeah, I know that some places don't like you doing personal emails on your own time, or receiving personal emails.

Bunch of BS if you ask me.

Or using the e-mail/internet policy as grounds for dismissal because it's easier than some other excuse.

Wow, that would be really, really, really lame, to misuse the misuse as an excuse.

He's not. He works on bank fraud security stuff doesn't he? I can imagine them having fairly strict policies probably for good reason.

I think I might make it a new years resolution to only come here at work. The amount of time I waste is just silly.

Forwarding "Risque humour" e-mails, in the main. Having "trivial conversations" via e-mail as well. Coupled with a spot of using e-Bay and BBC sport sites during office hours in some cases.

We're not talking illegal use by any stretch of the imagination. These were experienced staff who were good at their jobs, but when you work in the corporate environment everyone is considered replaceable if the sacred HR rules get broken.

That's a good reason why I have never posted from work. I know just how draconian they are on these issues.

Life and pensions, rather than banking. However these rules are strictly enforced across the board- a lot of those affected weren't working in risk-sensitive areas at all.

You don't defraud small customers and you don't wash the cash of big customers?

wtf are you doing?

Whatever it is, it isn't banking.
