Apparently I am because of a flight I took from Dusseldorf on the 18th! :gasmaske: Not good!:gasmaske:

Plan to becoming an alfa emitter yourself?

Next CG meeting: "The glowing ones"?

Ha ha! Maybe we'll develop super powers....

Where are you going by the way?

Prague for Austin's stag do.

Get a last minute flight, loads of accommodation spare, we're staying in the same flat as last time... above the pizza place.

You know, where you shagged the American girl in the toilet...

Yeah, I woul dhave been well up for that but I have literally no holiday to take. I should have gone home ill today (with Polonium poisoning)and had tomorrow off!

W00t! It would appear the plane I was on is under investigation...they shall "be in contact should there be any reason for concern" :(

If you're not glowing in the dark, you're fine.

Did all your hair fall out overnight?

Nills Lagerbaak
30-11-2006, 15:43:46
Nah my hair is OK, but I have a pounding headache and I feel sick. I am sure it's acute radiation poisoning!

Tizzy

Sounds like a hangover to me

Fistandantilus

Too bad they aren't going to let him take days off work for just a hangover. That's cruel.

Nills Lagerbaak
30-11-2006, 16:50:04
yeah but they may pay me vast amounts of money for Polonium poisoning! Sounds all good to me...

You can use your newly gained money to defray funeral costs.

Isn't acute unless you have some very serious symptoms. (and you likely are going to die soon if it was acute).

Acute radiation poisoning is not at all common currently.

We aren't suppose to take our radiation badges with us on the plane. Or to basements. Or anywhere were there might be a decent dose of radiation (except inside the experimental hall).

If this is from the 18th, the maximum dose you could have gotten is 100-200 REM. After the flgiht did you experience nausea or vomiting?

I do wish this sensationalism would pass...although a powerful alpha emitter, the amounts used are going to be miniscule, and it is an alpha emitter - unless you ingest it, you are not going to run into problems. I've never seen such a silly panic. I am sure the government are milking it :q:

YEah, Skin is good protection against alpha particles.. but I just wanted to emphasise the dose needed for acute radiation poisoning.

It was just a general comment Jon not directed at you...I am sure you're pretty good with your physics ;) But I do get concerned with the panic being made of this. The material was probably transported in a vial in hand luggage - there would be no risk of contamination at this point - the only problem would have been when it was opened, ie, at the restaurant.

lol, my issue was even if you do get radiation it isn't that big of a deal...

the ammount people are limited to in government work is less than you get from medical procedures...

and the maximum he could have gotten (From his description) was only enough to have an increased rate of cancer, really

Yeah, I know there's nothing to worry about, I just like bigging this story up :)

Anyone transporting it isn't going to want to be poisoned so if there's no risk to them, there'll be less risk to us.

Ok, we will not mention that couple of polonium sandwiches you ate during that flight Nills.
