I know how these guys feel. But putting it in the code is so unprofessional.

Sod being professional. But what's a company's source code doing being seen outside the company by Google ?

It's open source code.

Ah ha ! In which case it's fair game. I often swear in the comments, it's the only way to relieve the stress levels - well unless you have a good looking obliging secretary, and a stationary cupboard with a lock on the door, that is.

If anyone still has CtP2 installed, check out tut2_main.slc for a load of similar comments, that shipped with the game, in plaintext. Apparently the source to the game was the same - they stripped a million lines of comments before releasing the code.

I remember one of the programmers use to post on poly. She apparently worked real hard on it, and suffered a breakdown or something..

I didn't hear anything more from here after the source was released.

She's moving on. I don't blame her.

It depends on the code. Uckfay At-thay works for me around the kids, for instance.

YEUK! That link had another link to the American Family Association. I clicked it by accident.

Now I feel defiled. Can I sue?

Yes, but you have to sue the AFA and the Register not me.

A piece of advice if you want to avoid offensive words in your code: do NOT EVER write management software for Frequently Asked Question databases...

Open Source programmers are usually socially inept, software engineering-ly stupid, and murderers. Just ask Reiser.

Time for someone to post the software engineer or serial killer quiz.
