I'm planning a trip, predicated on me not getting fired after my physical inventory next month. Will probably be arriving weekend of the 23rd on some kind of Jet Blue redeye. Will be there for a week or so.
My friend Matt is an archaeologist in Manhatten (lord knows how he finds work there) very near Central Park I believe. I'll be using him...err...his roach infested rathol---errr...lovely cool pad as my base. Mrs. GBH will be accompanying but also going down to RI to visit a friend.
This will give me at least a night or day or two of "absolute freedom" to play Dungeons and Dragons, root for the Mets or Yankees (I have no preference) get beat up by the locals, etc.

I have never been there and am not sure which of you losers lives in the region.
Tell me what I MUST SEE, etc., how to avoid buying fake Rolex watches, what's good on Broadway and which burrito cart is the best in the area, etc.
I may even spring for a beer if you would like to meet me in a favorite watering hole. You will be astounded just how fat and bald I really am, I'm sure.
I already know that I can't understand a word Chris says, so I'll bring my Universal Translator.

Mmmmm, beer. I'll be there!

With any luck, the Jankers won't be playing baseball by then. Kind of indifferent to the Mets.

Heartland Brewery is a great place to get some beers. They'll have their seasonal pumpkin ale on tap by then. I might be able to make it in on a saturday.

Zum Snieder is a cool place. Just don't get drunk and (poorly) sing any songs.

Or say to the waitress "hey, what happened to our other waitress?.... Oh, shame, she was hot"

What about the possibility you'll find yourself in the middle of Mets vs Jankers World Series? :D

That was pretty cool.

I really like NYC. Maybe I'll make the drive up. It's under 3 hours.

The Canadian and I sang so badly we drove the others away. ;)

I remember now hearing about it the next day. I'm pretty sure I had left, but you guys were singing Oh Canada and God Bless America or something like that.

Yes, it was one of those embarrassing moments you hope the others forget about.

I've only been in Manhattan for a few months now, so I don't know much of the city. Keep me updated on the plans. I may be able to make a meet or something.

My suggestions (in no particular order of awesomeness):

- Get on the Staten island ferry. Great views of manhattan and surroundings and it goes past the statue of liberty too.

- There's a revolving bar/restaurant on the 60th floor of the marriott hotel in times square. Go up there and have a drink one evening, the view and atmosphere is fucking awesome.

- Go up the empire state building.

- Go to central park and the park zoo.

- Visit ground zero.

We did loads of other stuff in the week i was there, but in many ways those 5 define it for me.

Wander past the Empire State Building about 10 times looking for it..
