camera has set the exposure for the sky and so the forground is udnerexposed. If the camera has it either fire the flash on a fill-in setting or make it take a reading off the people rather than the sky.

on my camera the exposure lock button is seperate from the focus lock/shutter. It maybe that yours simply doesnt have the option. Try the flash idea - if you can force it to fire the flash then it can fill in the dark forground, although you have to get the right amount of flash or it looks very washed out.

Look for a manual exposure setting. Even mid-price cameras sometimes have it, it's usually a little +/- symbol.

it has these options

Exposure Setting Features
- Automatic (default)
- Action
- Landscape
- Portrait
- Aperture Priority
- Shutter Priority

i always leave it at auto.
maybe if i tried portrait for a change...

i hope you mean that.
because there is another option that says EV Compensation (and it is measured at +/- )...

Well, I walked to Havana (see picture above) along the beach, yesterday evening. Very pleasant indeed.
