Woohoo! I finally experienced my first earthquake!

It was only a rather small one, 3.5 on the Richter scale I've heard. I woke up at about 7 this morning, wondering why the hell my bed was shaking and why the neighbours were so noisy (a rattling closet). It was over in 30 seconds or so, but it was nice to feel what a minor earthquake was like first-hand. I'm afraid flooded streets or tornadoes are a bit out of the question in this area though.

sure it wasn't some frantic sexual activity on your neighbours part?

btw this is on that island that you live on right? any danger of it all sinking beneath the waves?

That was one of my first thoughts as well. :) But it sounded quite different, and all doubt was gone when I read it on the news this morning.

And no, this was Groningen where I live most of the time. This area is sitting on huge gas reservoirs, so every now and then we have these minor quakes because of the gas drilling. Or whatever they do with gas.

One day, when all the gas is pumped out, the earth will collapse beneath you and Holland shall be history.

I had a minor one in Mexico city, in 99
that was the weirdest feeling, really, like doing boogy dancing, slow motion (except you're not moving, but the rest of the world is)

didn't last long (maybe about 20 seconds), my co-workers were very calm, but I was shitting myself a bit... I had a few nightmares about natural catastrophies after that (mainly about volcanos errupting, strangely)

I had another minor one in California early 2001, but by then I was jaded and showed off in front of my collegues...

It's like a huge truck driving past your house.
