If you could go away for a long weekend anywhere in the UK, where would you go?

Why in the UK?

Very limited budget, and Grace needs to renew her passport anyway.

Reading and watch the toilet rise from the ground...doesn't get any better

I've been to Reading before, the locals aren't very friendly... ;)

Anyone remember Provost Harrison's legendary own goal? :D

You really need to get out of West Virginia more....

Hm, I would say Snowdonia every time. Most beautiful place in Britain me thinks.

If the weather is good, Arran and Mull on the West Coast of Scotland are both lovely.

What own goal was that?

Funko
02-08-2006, 15:08:47
On Pro Evolution Soccer 2 I think...

A really gentle back pass rolled very slowly under Barthez' foot and into the goal.

Chris

You would think being legendary it would be better known.

Was that the one where we called an ambulance for a guy who got run over and a bit later David Floyd spewed in the After Dark

We also gave DF a kebab on our return from Bristol, he wasn't sure if he liked it and he said later that he was totally sober at that point...

Yup. It was that weekend.

Matt still owes me 20 I lent him because he had no money for petrol on the way back to Manchester. He initially attempted to solve the challenge by driving along the motorway at 57 Mph or whatever he claimed the most fuel-efficient speed was...

*End Is Forever*
02-08-2006, 16:35:58
I don't remember the ambulance, but I remember David Floyd throwing up in the After Dark. I think the highlight was ringing Spink on the train and taking the piss though.

Seriously, Isle of Skye was remarkable. Vacationed there for a good while 2 years ago.

*End Is Forever*

I went to Skye as a small child, and I'd quite like to go back. Unfortunately it's a bit far away for a weekend...

All of those West Coast of Scotland suggestions are great- but not at this time of year. It's midge season.

How about the Gower? Big, beautiful beaches.

The Cotswolds- loads of fab villages with arty shops.

Cornwall is fab, but will be crowded at this time of year.

Funnily enough I was watching the South Wales episode of "Coast" earlier today...

See, everyone's saying Cornwall, it must be great

*End Is Forever*
02-08-2006, 19:58:22
Cornwall would be great if I already lived in the south-west. Alas, I don't.

alsieboo
02-08-2006, 20:01:34
Well hurry up and move then!

*End Is Forever*
02-08-2006, 20:02:23
I'm not moving just so I can be a couple of hours closer to somewhere I might want to go on holiday every so often.

Northumberland. Castles, beaches, Yorkshire Dales a stones-throw away.

 I vaguely remember calling him with a scouse accent but I can't for the life of me remember what was said!

....So many great memories in one weekend:

Meeting PH's mother
The LEGENDARY Atferdark
Meeting that 'freak' guy from Apolyton "Economically Speaking"
Meeting Laz, he's as funny in real life
mmm Kebab!
PH's own goal
Run over taxi man
Scabby's CDs (got me listening to the strokes)
Ghidra introducing us as nerds to his girlfriend even though he reads comics! ;)

What wasn't so fun was driving over the pennines at 9pm in a HUGE thunderstorm and getting blown across three lanes!! Scabbys 20 quid meant I didn't get stranded at Saddleworth Moore (where all the Moores murder bodies were buried)

Funny thing is, I only live 30 minutes away and have hardly seen any of the touristy sights.

Tizzy

I lived in and around London for nearly 7 years and there's probably loads of stuff I haven't seen. You do tend to take things for granted when they're on yor doorstep.

If it's August Bank Holiday, that's Reading Festival Weekend.

York is nice, plenty to see, good bars, nice countryside etc.

Birmingham is a good laugh.

If you want outdoors peak district is good but slightly less crowded than the lakes.

Is it August bank holiday weekend? Then the really obvious place to go is the Notting Hill Carnival. Free, spectacular, great food, elaorate costumes, overwhelmingly crowded.
